Given that only this morning Chezza discovered Hughesey is 17 years younger than Chezza, Chezza now realises this is basically a Hughesey Life Sentence, no remission, no parole, the whole term here in the Lounge.

It seems closing the Lounge would result in the whole forum pretty much closing down.
Sad when posts in the Lounge outnumber posts in the rest of a forum called theracingforum…
Value Is EverythingI don’t think it’s sad at all.
Plenty of activity in the racing folders, but the Lounge seems to have become particularly popular – especially when a thread like Nathan’s captures everyone’s imagination – at present and I think there is a better community spirit than at any time I’ve been at TRF.
So much well observed stuff too – lots of witty, perceptive posters, who clearly know each other really well.

One of the most recent topics in the main racing section concerns a ‘Racing League’ about which nobody here seems to care so is it any wonder we’re here discussing the cricket instead?

It wasn’t long ago in cat years that pilsen and Ricky would be saying the forum is dead. The lounge would collect dust. It would go days, weeks, months with zero activity. I would hear or read to be precise that the lounge use to be thriving now it’s too thriving
The main board has been split.
The good news is you only have to go down one step and you will find a place called big race discussion which does what it says on the tin.Further down is a lays and plays section for….. Horse racing. Sporting Sam makes selections in a lot of races. Those races are between horses.
If those sections were just in the top forum horse board like they probably were in daylights time then nothing has changed you just need to open your eyes and shop around

I rarely post in the horseracing section as my modus operandi is probably diametrically opposed to most people here.
I specialise in lower class handicaps using a combination of top jockey and top trainers along with old fashioned form reading. It can be frustrating as I have to use intuition to decide if today’s the day but if there’s any negative at all, I don’t bet.
It might seem boring to the purists here but it suits me.

I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysFor my part, I’ve spent literally 45+ years obsessing about horse racing, I still do, I still enjoy discussing it, but I don’t want to spend every waking hour on it and I’m no longer minded to share literally every independent thought in my head on it.
I love the Lounge, as is obvious, but not just because I can express myself here.
I’m often tacitly accused of posting on TRF far too much but, especially in other folders, instead of me posting less I often wish others would simply post more.
I’ve seen almost a day go by with no postings sometimes – frustrating as I need alternative material to my own to form a view on and reply to.
Here in the Lounge, especially in my view since one or two departures have made it a less hostile place, there is now lots of activity.
My current favourite thread is Nathan’s memes and I haven’t actually posted much on it – it’s been great to see so much hilarious and well-observed material from others.
The stuff about me is actually quite touching because it makes me realise how well some here know me despite never having met me.
But more just me, others too.
Anyone who misses the former nastiness might feel the Lounge has gone downhill, but I can’t share that view.
If I’m absolutely honest, I think gamble misses the old conflict – I like gamble loads but I don’t share that viewpoint (if indeed that is his viewpoint).
There’s things we’d all change about TRF – I think there’s a bit of OCD about pushing threads into niche folders where they gather dust instead of being widely read and commented upon.
I only really read the main folder, big race discussion and the Lounge – and I suspect I am not alone.
But I can understand why the more niche folders exist and it’s no big deal in the greater scheme of things.
Anyway, the Lounge is flying – love it.
