Terimon is only down for one domestic group 1 but I have seem to remember him winning another as well, was it not the Eclipse? That should be always brought up when people crab Nashwan’s Derby.
Handicaps are not Clive’s speciality of course as his horses are often very badly handicapped due to them running in better races than perhaps other trainers would run them in but I reckon he is a great.
In the last year or two Clive seems to have lost his other big patron Marwan (Crimplene) Al Maktoum. Michael Bell trains for a person of that name now but they are different racing colours so maybe the original passed on.
I always liked the partnership with Mouse Roberts combination myself a perfect fit those two, a perfect fit.
PS I’m not a fan of Michale Caine Bosranic but his title isn’t hereditary Mark Prescott got his becuse his uncle passed on and didn’t have an heir. That info came from George Duffields bio published a couple of years ago which by the way I would recommend to anyone.
September 9, 2008 at 12:04 #180163Terimon ran in the Eclipse a few times Spitfire but never won it.
If memory serves he only ever won the one G1. Good old days though, Clive seems to have been around for ever.

September 9, 2008 at 14:03 #180187I don’t suppose you’re mixing up Terimon with Environment Friend?

John Gosden has won a few Britannia Handicaps.

So’s Clive btw ~ I give you Efharisto.
Further evidence, were it needed, that you are part of the pre-war generation. Some of us were still in school shorts in 1992!

Forgive me, Spitfire. My eyes are ceramic. Caught a bazooka round at Little Big Horn. Or was it Okinawa? The one without the Indians.
How can anyone not be a fan of Michael Caine? Have you not seen Jaws: The Revenge!
You’re only supposed to blow the bloody fins off!

I did see you in your shorts, shouting "Bash on the wine gums!"……
September 13, 2008 at 09:28 #180749Clive also I believe trained racing genius Phil Bull’s last winner Ho Chi Minh or Ho Minh Cho in 1986. Marvellous tribute to his talents that is a horse from Phil.
Very suprised Phil Bull doesn’t have a Wikipedia entry since every other Tom, Dick and Harriet seems to.
September 14, 2008 at 21:14 #180997I have been fairly lucky with his horses- I remember standing in a Kentish Town bookies roaring home Cool Jazz at 33s in the Diadem at Ascot.Won by a short head and a short head. Was an amazing result for me financialy at the time.

I remember a horse called Ho Mi Chinh around that time ~ that may be the one you mean.
February 15, 2009 at 21:13 #210397Consistently delivers the goods on the all weather in their better races, Old favourite Kandidate this time for Clive.
Hope Clive has a decent size string for the coming turf and not just relying on Saeed Manana’s continued loyalty.
February 15, 2009 at 21:16 #210398Really strong performance by Kandidate there.
I wrote him off because of Formation running (then realised it was the sandpit AFTER I backed Formation!)
February 15, 2009 at 21:49 #210410Amazing that strong-travelling bridle merchants like Formation and Best Prospect seemed to hate the fibresand there.

As well as Clive’s CV reads (well done, rory) he’d have achieved nothing in recent years were it not for Warrsan and Kandidate.
I have never known what to make of the man to be honest – he’s either got an unerring ability to get horses to win when seemingly unfancied, or he’s mastered the equine equivalent of ‘hit and hope’.
February 15, 2009 at 22:16 #210417Winners to runners has never been Clive’s strong point and for most of his career including the maktoum years he was not given the best bred animals to work with but his results make make him in my opinion a better trainer than Mark Prescott. For me there is no arguement.

Great to see Formation’s regal tail-flashing again too, DJ.
February 15, 2009 at 23:27 #210434Kandidate was turned out looking beautiful today, a characteristic I’ve often noted with Clive Brittain’s horses.
February 16, 2009 at 20:31 #210544I have never worked for Clive Brittain but I have come into contact with him a time or two.
Twenty years ago I was working in a small yard. It was January and there was snow on the ground, it was very cold. The Trainer was in Barbados. I had sent the third lot out and was getting my horse out when another head lad came into the yard to tell me that one of our girls had had a nasy fall.I jumped in my car and when I got down to Well Bottom ( the area between the Limekilns and Waterhall ) I found (Sir) Michael Stoute standing waiting to control the traffic while CB, who was in a pristine white Mac led the way to where the girl was laying in the snow . She had a lot of mud on her. He didn’t hesitate , and we made a chair of our arms and got her up and about 50 yards to my car. When we had got her comfortable we stood up. CB’s clothes were covered with mud. I apologised and he laughed and said not to worry about that , just take care of the girl.
A few months ago I was sitting in my car in a garage in Newmarket while my wife went in to pay for our petrol. I am recovering from a broken thigh –
not a racing injury. CB came out of the shop and as he walked across the forecourt our eyes met and he smiled and put his hand up , as did I.
He came over and stood beside the car , asked how I was doing etc. and we chatted about yearlings , sales , weather etc. until my wife was back. He told me to do what I was told by her and told her to take good care of me.Now, I suppose he remembered my face – just another old lad , but, he didn’t have to do any of those things, and I have to say I was impressed by his attitude towards me. I shall always think of him as a very kind man.
Sorry if I’ve bored you , but ,credit where it’s due I think.
Best Wishes,
