O’Sullevan was good at finding cleverly named horses.
August 4, 2017 at 13:09 #1312774Paul Dixon had a gelding called Noble Locks. Steve Macmanaman and Robbie Fowler had horses called “Some Horse” and “Another Horse” which must have amused commentators no end. Wasn’t “Warning” by “Known Fact” out of “Slightly Dangerous”?
August 4, 2017 at 13:19 #1312778yeats, you are right. I always get the two mixed up when telling that tale. There were 2 racehorses named
Idiot’s Delight (1970/71), one a stallion and one a mare, and unless I google, I usually get them the wrong way round.August 4, 2017 at 18:26 #1312837Wasn’t “Warning” by “Known Fact” out of “Slightly Dangerous”?
He was – there are a few good names in that family, but Warning is the best.
August 5, 2017 at 21:28 #1313042The Kew Tour was very clever…..
August 6, 2017 at 11:54 #1313090A regular around the southern tracks not so long ago, trained by Dominic French Davies was,
Geespot, by Pursuit of Love out of My DiscoveryBrilliantly named
August 6, 2017 at 19:30 #1313140Earlier in week, was reading about some lucky bugger who had a bet just over £4 and won around quarter of a million by their names.
The bet was with William Hill and she did
Dark Red 12/1 1.50 Goodwood
Breton Rock 50/1 3.00 Goodwood
The Children’s Trust 100/1 4.10 Goodwood
El Astronaute 33/1 4.45 Goodwood
Darkroom Angel 16/1 5.15 GoodwoodWilliam Hill paid out on Dark Red as a win because it was first past the post.
She combined the five in 10p each way doubles, 10p each way trebles, 5p each way fourfold accumulators, 1p each way fivefold accumulator
The best things in life are free.
But you can give them to the birds and bees.August 9, 2017 at 12:57 #1313335Has there ever been a horse called Norfolk and Chance ?

Yes along with the Norfolkandgood these were the two horses I named on a recent Race Night for the local ruyby club. First 2 races and the owner had a quick double and made it through to the final. Unfortunately some bright spark when organising the Card came up with 7 races but there were only 6 horses per race in the field so one had to drop out and since I had two winners I declared Norfolkandchance a non-runner. I was the Bookie that night. GT would have had kittens with my Overrounds

Adoptive father of two. The patron saint of lower-grade fare. A gently critical friend of point-to-pointing. Kindness is a political act.
October 12, 2017 at 14:44 #1321207The older members will remember a very smart horse from the 70s named Muff Diver (seriously; I think Weatherbys changed their naming rules shortly afterwards).
Muff Diver was by Idiot’s Delight out of Deep Diver
Naming rules failed to stop Mary Hinge getting through but they stopped Joe Blob just before it ran.
October 12, 2017 at 19:19 #1321226Some might remember the half-decent handicapper Bachelor’s Pad
by Pursuit Of Love ex Notebook
October 12, 2017 at 21:21 #1321245One that got away, could have been but never was….
Threepenny Bits out of Henbit & Mrs Penny
October 13, 2017 at 13:21 #1321297Quite a clever one I remember from the 80s was Lowawatha by Dancing Brave out of Shorthouse
(reference Hiawatha!)
October 13, 2017 at 19:25 #1321366As regards ”naughty” names:
Weigh Anchor as called by Peter O’Sullevan was mildly amusing.
Norfolk Enchants (2006) got through the Aussie name filter in recent times.
Shy Talk in the 70’s

Louis Freedman named his horses really well. Too many to name here but Sandy Floss (Green Desert – Mill On The Floss) was a good one and also Milly Ha Ha by Dancing Brave out of that same mare.
October 13, 2017 at 19:46 #1321377Big Tits got past the French censor after its French translation Gros Nichons was rejected.
I also saw a filly called Tite Fanny racing in France.
Wear The Fox Hat got spotted just in time having been entered to run at Folkestone before a name change was required.
