Who do people fancy for this race?
I would love to see Fair along win and if he runs to last years form he must go close without Big Bucks and Punchestowns in the race this year, although he has a penelty this year. However this might be more from the heart than brain as i love the little horse! lol the race will prob go the way of Karabak imo, with fair along and katchit running game races for place money!January 29, 2010 at 00:13 #272629AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716

If Fair Along can win a truly run gd2 over 3m at Cheltenham giving 6lb to such as Karabak I will tarmac your drive for nothing.
I’d be amazed if he makes the first 3.January 29, 2010 at 10:00 #272652For me Karabak should take this comfortably, Tidal Bay could be very interesting if back to his best and if he takes back to hurdles but they are two very big and unlikely if’s. I still believe the engine’s there though (insert following him off a cliff face)
January 29, 2010 at 11:07 #272665Karabak will win this race and then go to Cheltenham and win the world hurdle he will do it.Last 4months i been backing him.
January 29, 2010 at 11:15 #272666I agree that Karabak has an outstanding chance in both this and the World Hurdle and will be the one best placed to take advantage if there are are chinks in BB’s armour.
January 29, 2010 at 11:42 #272675I cant see Karabak in the field, thats a shame as it would have given my old pal Tidal Bay a run for his money! Glad to see connections taking the "Kings" advice and running him back over hurdles though! The word "Consultant" springs to mind! I wonder if Fist can make an anagram out of it?
January 29, 2010 at 11:48 #272676Yes just seen the decs, shame….Tidal Bay is interesting, as are Lie Forrit and Time for Rupert.

Do you honestly think a return to hurdles will help Tidal Bay? One never knows but I get the distint impression he has his own ideas about the game and ever a baseball bat between the ears wouldn’t change his mind.
Katchit back at Cheltenham and no doubt straighter than he will have been in a long time crossed my mind but if I had a bet I think I’d go for David Pipe’s Mr Thriller. He was well beaten by Katchit last time but he looks the type to benefit from this real tough 3 miles and perhaps moreso than Katchit will.
Too many others with good chances to be risking the hard earned on though, especially on a complete nut case like Tidal Bay.

That complete nutcase is the only horse capable of giving Big Bucks a run for his money in the World Hurdle! He wont be 260 after tomorrow sunny Jim!

I’m leaning towards an each way bet on Time For Rupert (particularly at Sporting Lifes forecast odds ), I think this is will prove a step too far for Lie Forrit though.
January 29, 2010 at 17:31 #272737It’s certainly gun-to-head time for Lie Forrit tomorrow. Wasn’t he originally entered for a less competitive conditions hurdle in Ireland which connections ultimately swerved due to the going?
The presence of three probable pace influences is going to make this a sound enough test for him. A race with depth likely to be run to suit, then – the rest’s up to him.

January 29, 2010 at 17:39 #272740Seems like the kind of race Lough Derg would win?!
January 29, 2010 at 18:16 #272749I’ll get sectioned for this after Kempton last week but 66/1 about Kennel Hill seems a big price to me. For a horse who was a fast finishing second to Tell Massini (trainer regards him as a Gold Cup horse for the future) and with decent CD form. The race at Newbury wasn’t run to suit and he was still up close late on and would have certainly place given another 50 or so yards. He was the most likely winner when he inadvertently pulled himself up at Kempton and the step back up in trip, stronger company (hit the front too soon IMO last time out) will surely suit a horse who IMO needs something to aim at ie. a horse or two in front of him.
Can see him running on into the placings and will be taking some of Hills 66/1 about him.
January 29, 2010 at 18:33 #272750Mr Thriller for me…stunning win at Chepstow and defeat of Starluck are positives. Must be forgiven odds on defeat in strange 3 runner affair at New Year.
I will assume he was hung over and get stuck in tomorrow at 8.6January 29, 2010 at 18:55 #272757Irish Stamp

Reply You might have a point, especially at 66-1, his Irish Point and Hunter form is good , (promising 2nd to Paddy Pub, touted as a National horse) let down by his jumping on occasions. His jumping has improved and he’ll stay however deep the ground is and the Tell Massini form is first class. Incidentally Kennel Hill the same RPR as Tatanen, a 14-1 chance. Hard race to call, many with chances

Not a very classy field, and Lough Derg would have a better chance than against his more usual opposition, though this stiff 3m would be at the top end of his ability range.
Tidal Bay is not nearly as enigmatic as Fist would have us believe – he just can’t jump fences – but if can make the transition to hurdles after 3 years out he’ll beat these pointless. Were this a chase, at these weights TB would be odds-on anyway (in spite of his record), so at a double figure price might well be worth risking to make the adjustment.January 29, 2010 at 19:25 #272765I know it won’t happen but I’d love to see The Chief run well; one of my all time favourites.
