Hi Ivanjica ,
it does looks beige on the YouTube footage of the gold cup but ….
if you input captain christy gold cup into Google Images there’s a couple of pictures that appear pink – have got the same picture from an old Schweppes calendar and it’s definitely pink.
cheers
I.Hi Isinglass,
I decided to dig out my old racecards last night to alleviate a bout of insomnia and had forgotten I own the 1974 GC and 1975 KG ones and the colours are listed as beige and brown so the pictures you have must have been taken with a filter or simply faded. But at least thats another one put to bed.
BTW noticed the McCalmont silks back in use bu a John Gosden filly on the AW the other day – Flirtini.

illustrating the Cheltenham Gold Cup winners since 1970 – including Captain Christy in pink!Great work ENE – its really taking shape. I take it you meant to say beige not pink for 1974????
A couple of observations:
The Thinker (1987) – had a white star on his green jacket.
Master Smudge (1980) – light blue red diamond qtd cap (no red diamonds on sleeves)February 4, 2013 at 18:58 #428524Thanks ENE , that’s very impressive.
apologies , have been holding off on these for a while but ………
after the request for Cheltenham Gold Cup winners at the end of last year I thought I’d give that a go , as well as the National and the Champion Hurdle. Christmas tv was rubbish so needed something to pass the time before going back to work.
Anyway , as usual some gaps are proving difficult to fill. Anyone help with these please ?

February 5, 2013 at 10:20 #428590Only a punt going on the videos, but my guess at For Auction would be:
Sky blue, white sleeves, red cap.
Am sure someone can confirm or correct.
February 5, 2013 at 17:20 #428611I’m sure there was a white chevron, or possibly other symbol on the body OA, but couldn’t be 100% certain.

He ran in the 1986 Mildmay Of Fleet finishing 10th.. According to the racecard the colours were:
Light Blue, White Hooped Sleeves, Red Cap
February 5, 2013 at 19:11 #428622Hi Isinglass,
Champion Hdle 1963 Winning Fair George Spencer
I have found a Mr G H Spencer in the Steeple-Chasing colours section of the 1949 Ruff’s Guide. Not sure if it is the George Spencer of Winning Fair fame but it would seem likely:
Light Blue, Dark Blue Sleeves, Red and White Qtd Cap
Grand National 1949 Russian Hero Fearnie Williamson
Also, in the 1949 Ruff’s guide there is a Mr J Proctor:Black and White Halved, Sleeves Reversed, Gold Cap.
This picture http://www.sporthorse-data.com/horse/10 … ge-big.jpg
and the youtube footage seem to support it.
Grand National 1949 Russian Hero Fearnie Williamson
Finally I have a jpeg from ebay of the 1950 race in which Russian Hero also ran. His colours were:
Black and White Check, Black Sleeves, Quartered cap.His jockey, Liam McMorrow was a first cousin of my paternal grand mother btw!!
February 5, 2013 at 21:42 #428635Some suggestions for Grand National winning colours:

February 18, 2013 at 13:41 #429958Hi All,
don’t know if the following link’s been mentioned earlier in the thread – haven’t checked to be honest.

Good for Grand National enthusiasts ( as is a site called sixtiesnationals ). Some decent racecard information for a lot of the years featured.
cheers

February 24, 2013 at 13:21 #430422Just reviewing missing colours for Royal Ascot, anybody know Mme A Hausmann’s colours as carried by Flirting Around when winning Kings Stand in 1975?
February 24, 2013 at 19:32 #430446Hi William Hill yearbook for 1976 shows Flirting Around owned by Mrs H Hausmann ( presume either the A or H is Mr Hausmann ).
B&H book of colours have Mrs H Hausmann as Dark Blue Light Blue sleeves Light Blue & Yellow striped cap.
May be a picture in Timeforms racehorses of 1975 that , even in black & white , may confirm or deny this.
cheers
I.February 24, 2013 at 22:34 #430464I agree that the B&H book has that description but Timeform’s pictures don’t help.
They don’t have a posed photo. Just one of the Prix de Saint-George – where he is wearing a striped jacket and cap and the Kig’s Stand where he is wearing some sort of coloured jacket but with very pale (possibly white) sleeves and cap.
In the write-up it says that "he changed hands a week before the King’s Stand Stakes and was sent to South Africa after that race". I guess this is the reason for the change of colours between the two photos.
