Thought Henderson had said that Binocular will run at Haydock on Saturday week Fists?
Yes, that’ll be Binocular’s first run.
November 9, 2008 at 22:00 #188953You meant Crack Away Jack
Sorry read the post in a bit of a rush
November 9, 2008 at 22:08 #188957Katchit didn’t exactly beat a bunch of trees last year and the Champion Hurdle scene hasn’t improved a great deal.
He’s never been unplaced in 15 starts over hurdles and his Cheltenham record is 5 from 6.
He was well beaten by Osana and Harchibald at the end of last year before turning the tables in March. This followed an impressive defeat of Blythe Knight in February.
He’s a much better horse at that time of year.
He’s currently a best priced 10/1 with Ladbrokes. This horse will be primed for the big one and his constitution is solid. A whopping ante post bet.
Binocular looks a serious threat, but we have yet to see him this term. Katchit became the first 5YO to win the CH since See You Then in 1985, so it doesn’t happen too often.
Jered looks very talented, but he will need to be foot perfect at Cheltenham to beat the fast and fluent Katchit.
Katchit is the still the one they all need to beat.

You don’t need me praising your comments but I’ve got to say that it’s really nice to read such a positive view of Katchit at the moment… not to say that I’ve lost any faith in him and he owes us nothing but I think we feel the pressure and fear of him regressing etc…
We don’t think he has and think we’re just learning about what he needs… a longer trip on a flat track and larger fields.
After the Bula I hope I’m still reading positive messages!
Thanks Bos!
November 10, 2008 at 00:22 #188983I can’t have it he’s regressing at all – thought saturday was remeniscent of Kauto Stars Old Roan reversal last season prior to hacking up in his favourite race (KG) later the same season.
November 10, 2008 at 02:55 #189000And if you think Rooster Booster was beaten on merit in every one of those 30-odd losses, you clearly haven’t paid very much attention to how he raced. He threw away one Champion Hurdle, and lost many others races, by either failing to go through with his effort (a trait evident throughout his career)
Grassy, are you trying to say, albeit in a round-about way, that Harchibald has never been beaten on merit?!?!
Finally, you’ve seen the light… Hallelujah.
November 12, 2008 at 05:47 #189325ON Katchit I agree with PC It’ll be alright on the night as they say and Cheltenham is a long way off.
Seems we have a Jered V Sizing Europe clask coming up with the latters trainer saying he will come on for the run.
If they are being 100% truthful and Jered is a serious contender he will have to win this easily .
If Sizing Europe gives him any sort of race you can expect a reversal at Chelteham. I very much doubt if Jered would be good enough to beat a 100% fit SE.
Intested to read Nicky Henderson comments hinting he wants to avoid Crack Away Jack……..seems I am not the only one who thinks he’s CH class. Mind you he was a bit slow realising it
November 12, 2008 at 15:47 #189358I agree with you Fist regarding Crack Away Jack. The horse is classy and I see him as a genuine Champion hurdle contender. Whether or not he’ll actually win it, well thats another question but I like him and I expect him to be at least close to the top of the tree.
November 16, 2008 at 12:39 #190021If MacManus team believe that Jered was going to win the CH would McCoy not be coming over to Punchestown to ride him today?
November 16, 2008 at 14:53 #190032The book of rides he has at Cheltenham (includes Straw Bear and Aigle D’Or for his guv’nor), plus the fact that the Greatwood is more valuable than the Morgiana, probably helped make his mind up for him.
November 16, 2008 at 20:44 #190095"I wouldn’t give you 10pence for anything that ran in the Champion Hurdle between Istabraq and Katchit. Without doubt the worst bunch of hrslers in the races history sine I first saw Magic Court win under Pat McCarron."
Good to see Hardy today making the above statement look as thouroughly ridiculous as it is. Not bad for a "Useless Boat" who is no doubt well past his best but still capable of serving it up to this new "classic" generation.

Hmmm. Hardy just outstayed an unfit horse today. Probably a low 160’s performance it hardly proves anything about his class as a Champion hurdler.
The really soft ground was always going to suit him in as much as he will stay and he’ll battle. Its just a little bit surprising that he doesn’t seem to have regressed from his form of last season.
He wasn’t the best Champion hurdler in history but he was a decent one IMO certainly better than the likes of Katchit, Rooster Booster and Hors La Loi.
November 17, 2008 at 00:38 #190128Well put Ian and sorry PC but all that proved today was SE is back and Jered won’t win the CH,,,,,,,good performance nonetheless and good on the old fellow
November 17, 2008 at 01:08 #190135Don’t understand how you can agree with Ian when you reckon "the old fellow" (certainly an improvement from "Hardy Useless" and "a Boat") he’s one of the worst Champs of all time. Or are you (correctly) backtracking?
Ian – Heavy ground doesn’t "suit" Hardy ashe clearly prefers better ground, saying it does is making excuses for others, as is the "fitness" claims. Can anyone give me a reason why Hardy was fitter than Sizing Europe today? SE looked fit enough this time last year in the Greatwood.
HE is always excuse-less and is vastly under-rated by many – simple as.
November 17, 2008 at 03:08 #190156Couldnt agree more with the last line PC. Strange isnt it? how some horses seem to live with this? I love the old soldier
Wonderful to see him win, but as one observer has said on another thread, was there a hint that SE didnt really go through with things today? Feeling something? ive no idea
Was he viewed by paddock people as being fitor not? Would be interesting to know that
Cant have Jered at all after that.
November 17, 2008 at 03:51 #190163Amazing – Hardy only had 248 days absense to overcome as opposed to Sizing Europes 250. Excuses.
November 17, 2008 at 04:07 #190165Oh come on PC there wasn’ta penny for SE which tells all about how forward he was. Before you say it there was no money for HE but he would be as fit as a fiddle…….IF you want to lose every penny you have back HE to beat Sizing Europe next time they meet…….wouldn’t be a contest and you know it.
On second thoughts back it with me and I’ll double the oddds on offer.
