Andrew,
"Mourad" always looked like he could make a better hurdler than
a Group horse on the flat. He is a very well bred 4yo (Sinndar, Kahyasi dam) trained by J.Oxx for the "Aga Khan" he is now with W, Mullins
the man for training Novice hurdlers this year, You should get at least 33/1
for the triumph hurdle if you ask your bookmaker!Cheers mate

Noel Meade has said that he’s given Jered a break after his run behind Harchibald which, whilst disappointing, was attributed to the ground. He has also stated that he hopes he’s given the chance to run in the Champion Hurdle, Binocular or no Binocular.
Jered is still the only ante-post bet I hold for this race, so I obviously hope he’ll be afforded the opportunity to run (Captain Cee Bee ran against Binocular last year, so I see no reason why this fellow shouldn’t).
January 6, 2009 at 03:24 #201870I’m in trouble if GWILSON77 is also siding with Jered.
Now where’s that lay button
You hit the lay button "Equitrack" i am keeping the faith!

I was tempted, but I didn’t actually make it to Betfair that day

You mean Hardy Eustace of course?
I would certainly want to run Jered as Binocular coud fall, go wrong or simply turn out not to be good enough.
As you say there is no apparant reason why they wouldn’t run him, but you just never know with JP ….it’s a bit worrying when the trainer says things like "I hope I am given the chance to run him".
That stinks of the Francheok Binocular saga. or perhaps nothing has been said and NM is just surmising JP may not want him to run against Binocular..
We won’t be told much that’s for sure. Those that train for JP never seem to straight talk in these situations. Him being a gambler I don’t suppose they would be training long for him if they did. Nicky couldn’t muster 5 words about Binocular in an interveiw 2 days before the Triumph. So he was either told not to talk or simply wasn’t told a thing.
Anyway it’s not qite the same as the Triumph and with the massive prestige and one helluva decent prize to take home hopefully for ou JP will want to go there with every bit of ammo he has, including Jered. GL

Fist,
Your "Binoculars" gonna run out of petrol running up that Cheltenham hill, he reminds me a bit of "Morley street" for some reason! i must admit
if the Champion Hurdle was run at Aintree he would be a Cert! The more
i watch him in the Supreme last year the more i see Stamina doubts, i dont think he has improved that much from last year, and i can see a very
rusty Celestial improving past him, Sorry old boy, but i would be laying to protect at least my stake if i was you! Let Common sense prevail, you have 20/1 and he is as short as 7/4 to lay!January 19, 2009 at 16:15 #205110Morely Street won the Champion Hurdle Don’t worry about me laying him I am more than covered if he is in the first three.
You should worry about Celestial Halo who I can’t see being a factor in the race.
If he is held up it wont suit him if he tries to make the running Osana with that Pipe fuel in his tank will take him off his feet.
There’s no way he will cope with the sudden injection of pace when Katchit (Franchoek’s stable companion) kicks from the top of the hill.
Perhaps between them Osana and Katchit can burn Binocular out before the last but if they don’t it will take more than the Cheltenham Hill to stop him……..you are putting way too much emphaisis on the Supreme when he was still a virtual baby.
January 19, 2009 at 17:37 #205128Snap Tie being available at 40-1 is just a ridiculous price IMO. The horse is much better than those odds suggest.

33s in most places too.
Goes well at Cheltenham too, and apart from his performance at the weekend, i have been very impressed with the horse this season.
January 19, 2009 at 23:15 #205202Have to agree Gaz, although the ground was officially good in his last race, there’s no way it was and the jockey would of known the ground was no good from the start anyway. The horse was just given a run out (apart from a few half-hearted shakes of the reigns). I backed him at 25’s ew a long time ago, should’ve waited i know.
Think he needs a track like chelts to bring the best out of him, decent 3rd in the supremes last year giving the best part of 10lbs to Binocular would tend to confirm that. The value might be to bet him in running though as he will probably be one of the first to be off the bridle.
Of the others, still cant see why Sublimity is so big. Last year it was well documented his preperations were all wrong so it was no suprise he didnt win it. Also cant understand why so many people believe his champion hurdle success was one of the worst.
Any horse who runs 3:55 on soft ground around cheltenham will surley win wont they?(even on better ground) Which just makes me think that most of his knockers still feel bitter about not backing the horse… i felt quite nice about the 20/1 i had btwIf you look at the last time it was run on soft ground, the race was won by Alderbrook in ’95, which was won in a time of 4:03. With that in mind, can anyone tell me what was so bad about Sublimitys champion win?

I always thought blinkers looked much better strapped to a horses head rather than human ass
Sorry Fists, just been reading the Arkle forum and couldnt resist a dig. Why so many bad feelings flying around, thought horse racing was supposed to be fun?
January 19, 2009 at 23:50 #205209Also cant understand why so many people believe his champion hurdle success was one of the worst.
Any horse who runs 3:55 on soft ground around cheltenham will surley win wont they?I was much the same as you at first Andrew, although when presented with the time in context, the ground at Cheltenham was riding a good deal faster for the CH in 2007 (officially soft) than it was in 2008 (officially good to soft).
FWIW, I still think Sublimity’s Champion win is under-rated by many and that he’s arguably the best in the division (barring Binocular) given a good pace.
January 20, 2009 at 00:05 #205215Cheers Friggo, so how good was the ground in 2007 and how bad in 2008? Because if true, it changes everything. And also, if the ground in 2007 was riding better than last year, then how come "officially" it was described as soft cuz last year was no worse than good/soft surely?
Hard to believe the people who decide the going could get it that wrong at such a prestigeous event.
Might just hold on to my Snap Tie anti-post and leave it there for the festival if thats true because like most people i guess, I only go on whats reported (ground-wise) rather than walking the course myself.January 20, 2009 at 00:14 #205217Regarding Sublimity, I think most people don’t rate his Champion Hurdle win because he hadn’t really achieved anything of note over hurdles before then. These people forget though that he probably would have won the Supreme Novices in 2006 had he not been all but carried out at the top of the hill by a loose horse. I’d him backed at a big price that day after hearing plenty of positive noises at one of the Cheltenham previews and I’m convinced to this day he would have beaten Noland and Straw Bear if he’d have had better luck in running.
