    Flyingbolt won the 1966 Champion Chase and then the following day finished third in the Champion Hurdle but if you won a Champion Hurdle these days you would have no reason to go novice chasing the following season, which is why Dawn Run’s Champion Hurdle/Gold Cup double I don’t think will ever be replicated.

    Probably right, but more because so few horses would have the speed for a CH yet also the stamina for GC. Part of the reason I would have loved to see Faugheen over fences; maybe if he’d been at another stable….. The CH is a wonderful prize, 2nd only to the GC, but still second
