Jack Mullins has said Townsend wouldn’t swap his for anything else , tactically it’s going to be fascinating to see how it plays out , another race to look forward to , I’ve tickled Nubre e.w and if they do go hard it may help him if the front ones do stop

No jockey is ever going to come back after a race and tell connections “We’ve got no chance of reversing the form next time”.
Let’s see what Blue Lord does next weekend; wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Townend deserts Energumene in the QMCC should the Munir horse win impressively at the DRF.
January 29, 2023 at 07:19 #1632740No chance , Blue Lord couldn’t touch edwardstone in the arkle , Townsend wont switch
January 29, 2023 at 07:35 #1632741Blue Lord could be a much-improved horse this year.
January 29, 2023 at 08:06 #1632744He hasn’t beaten a good 2 miler ….
January 29, 2023 at 08:12 #1632746Hence the italics. 😉
January 29, 2023 at 08:12 #1632747Not that I think he would but can Townend switch, given Jacob is the retained jockey

I’m not sure Energumene did either before he won ;o)
A fast run 2 miles would suit Blue Lord imo. He’d be in with a shout.

Not for Munir/Souede horses trained by Willie Mullins. There, Townend has first dibs.
January 29, 2023 at 08:20 #1632750Mike he,s F and 4 at cheltenham , he,s won 2 weak races this season , plus likely he’ll go to Ryanair , I can’t see him beating the horses at the top of the Champion market
January 29, 2023 at 13:43 #1632808Alan King just confirmed that other G1 races don’t seem to matter as much as the Fez.
“We’ve lost a battle, not the war” he said.Yeah, losing out by a nose in a proper G1 race restaged at the home of NH racing, doesn’t seem to bother you much.
January 29, 2023 at 13:47 #1632810As predictable as it is depressing, ERL – I echo your sentiments.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 29, 2023 at 14:10 #1632817Agree about King’s comments. I said as much yesterday. Even allowing for speaking off the cuff in the aftermath, it was an unfortunate choice of words.
I think he will be celebrating in March. Editor got a great ride and it is difficult to begrudge his connections. But I cannot believe he is a better horse than one that has won an Arkle and Tingle Creek impressively.
January 29, 2023 at 14:19 #1632820I think he (Edwardstone) should be winning in March, but I hate the idea of people using a G1 race as a prep run for Cheltenham. No doubt, we’ll see a much fitter horse in the CC and I’m quite sure he’ll be ridden more vigorously as well.
As Cork pointed out, he’s won an Arkle and a Tingle Creek in quite convincing fashion and no matter what the excuses for Energumene are, he won a very weak CC last year.
January 30, 2023 at 13:57 #1632976It’s dangerous to assume Editeur Du Gite will run to the same form as yesterday. He’s improving, his last two runs the best of his career, Saturday’s being 3lbs up on Kempton on Racing Post Ratings. He could find 3 more, 5 more, who knows, but improving horses need plenty respect.
