“Plus I think this colt could turn out better than all three of them, even Sea The Stars.”
I like it
If you’re gonna get carried away why not go all in
We will be calling you Ianstradamus if you’re correct
July 25, 2023 at 18:54 #1656498That’s very kind, but Kris (and CAS) spotted him first.
But I never was one for sitting on the fence.
City Of Troy’s biggest enemy IMO is the weight-for-age scale and the vagaries of how individual horses develop.
A 2yo receives 38lb from a 4yo+ over 7f the day the Superlative Stakes was run.
And on the day of the 2,000 Guineas that 2yo (now a 3yo) gets 13lb from a 4yo+ over a mile and on Derby Day it’s 15lb at 1m4f.
I think City Of Troy’s OR of 118 is about right (though I’d put a “+” on it so easily did he win at Newmarket) and his pedigree says he should make that wfa improvement, possibly more, actually as the sire never even ran at two and the damsire only won a Maiden and both were banging 3yos.
But when a 2yo is more precocious than his pedigree entitles him to be, you have to wonder if he’s a throwback to earlier influences in his lineage and whether anything can be taken at face value.
Can’t wait for the National Stakes to see more evidence – and after that I hope they put him away for the Guineas.
But the bottom line is 118 in the Superlative only equates to 93 with zero wfa improvement between then and the 2,000 Guineas next May, and in Classic ante-post betting you’re dealing with immature animals who are still developing in a way that isn’t the case with a maybe inexperienced but nevertheless fully-grown Supreme winner going for the Champion Hurdle the following year.

Seems very possible
It’s rare these precocious types keep improving at 3
July 25, 2023 at 19:06 #1656500If he takes in the National Stakes and wins I can’t see him being put away he’ll be over here for one of the Autumn Groups 1s.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
July 25, 2023 at 19:12 #1656501Yes you’d imagine he’d be running in the dewhurst
July 25, 2023 at 19:15 #1656502Yep US Navy Flag and Churchill followed this route.

July 25, 2023 at 19:18 #1656503I’m sure I read somewhere that the intention was indeed to run City Of Troy in the National Stakes then put him away for next year but, of course, whether I did or not, connections could always channel their mind.
I suspect their priority for commercial stud value reasons will be winning that 2yo Group 1 and the best chance of seeing him in the Jean-Luc Lagadere, Dewhurst or the Futurity (all autumn Group 1s at 7f or a mile) will be if he’s narrowly beaten at The Curragh.
We shall see!

CITY OF TROY’s dam TOGETHER FOREVER has three progeny by WAR FRONT.
Anybody know what has happened to Coolmore’s association with / promotion of WAR FRONT?
July 25, 2023 at 22:00 #1656534War front is 22 in January so probably just father time. Coolmore see no nay never,Wooton Bassett and sotsass as go to horses for the galileo fillies. They did just seem to drop war front all of a sudden . I’m sure joseph Allen still owns him so maybe a wee difference of opinion.
July 26, 2023 at 05:48 #1656557Probably the going now very rarely being good to firm and so many clerks of the course not hesitating to water means war fronts not getting their ideal going.

July 26, 2023 at 09:39 #1656572To get the thread back on topic, City Of Troy heads 71 entries for the National Stakes over 7f at The Curragh on Sunday, 10th September.

Let joy be unconfined.

August 1, 2023 at 22:27 #1657754You can’t beat 2/1 and 4/1 City Of Troy for the 2,000 Guineas and The Derby after Haatem’s win today – it’s 1st August!
Mental! Love it!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 10, 2023 at 06:00 #1659265It might not mean much but Quatre Bras, beaten out of sight in last place in the Superlative, won at Kempton last night on his first start since getting a very distant view of City Of Troy. He won by two lengths going away in a pleasing performance.
August 10, 2023 at 07:21 #1659269Yes cas I was just coming in to say the same. And yes, I was on it.
I’ll put up a list of city of Troy’s opponents and maybe they can be tracked here. -
