Sadly had to be put down after suffering a hind leg injury in the 8.05 at Lingfield.

    RIP :(

Fatally injured in the 8:05 at Lingfield last night. Was the reason the race was void.

Sad outcome. :( Strange that they stopped the race though. Is this a new policy?

Races have been stopped in such circumstances previously when the stricken horse or jockey is in a position which may put themselves or others in danger when the runners come around again. I couldn’t comment on exact psotion as camera shots didn’t show anything, but I presume Chief Monolulu was near the winning post.

There was a incident at Kelso last jump season when Cassius collapsed just past the winning post. I did wonder if the race might but stopped, but in the event it continued with no apparent problems past the line.

Ultimately, if safety is a concern then I’ve have no problem with stopping a race and thankfully such requirements are rare.

    Rob
