We’re finally off and running with the National Hunt season getting underway withthe Chepstow meeting tomorrow. A lack of rain has dampened the spectacle somehwat with small fields expected across both days.
The Grade 2 Persian War Novices Hurdle is tomorrow’s big race. Quid Pro Quo is a worthy favourite (2/1) who i think will win.
The Veterans Handicap Chase is always a heartwarming race. Cloth Cap heads the weights and the betting but I can see Some Chaos leading them a merry dance from the front. His price has gone though so no bet here.
A Jonjo double is going to by only bet on Friday. Collectors Item in the Novice Hurdle (5/4) and Holly in the Handicap Hurdle (2/1).
October 6, 2022 at 19:16 #1617573How many winners will Paul Nicholls have over the two days?
October 6, 2022 at 19:39 #1617583The 4yo Handicap Hurdle on the Saturday is my favourite race of this meeting.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 6, 2022 at 19:42 #1617585Ah, the former Timeform Free Handicap Hurdle. Good choice, Chezza, although I preferred the old Mercedes-Benz Handicap Chase, which I see has now been renamed after Native River.
Hate the way the Silver Trophy has been moved to this meeting; far preferred it when it was run in November.

Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 7, 2022 at 08:42 #1617658Maybe Gentle Connections can cause a surprise in the Persian War Novice Hurdle. I like her profile.
Gentle Connections 20/1October 7, 2022 at 13:20 #1617672Always enjoy seeing who turns up in the novice chase and I’ll be sticking Mcfabulous in a few perms over the two days.
I expect a good run from Kitty’s Light tomorrow in the 3 miler. I wanted to have a go at the 33’s for the National, but Betfair are only offering a meager £3ew stake limit at this time. Should hopefully not stray too far from that price with a few under par winter runs before a spring revival… hopefully!
I do hope Cloth Cap shows some old zest today. I love the veterans series and I’d be very pleased to see a horse of his standard become a mainstay.

Sounds like you’ve been backing too many winners, Peter.

However, both the Persian War, and Silver Trophy H’Cap would be better in a month’s time when the ground is better.
And if I remember, it was run a week earlier, the same weekend as the Cambridgeshire/ Arc weekend. It was always a meeting one looked forward to, now I’m nowhere near as bothered…..
October 7, 2022 at 17:50 #1617697I don’t know who they’re confusing me with, Ian!
October 7, 2022 at 19:47 #1617714Lord Baddesley a strong fancy for me in the Trophy tomorrow. Took 8/1 this morning with bet365. 6s at best now.
I might bet Krypton Gold in the 4yo hurdle if Lord Baddesley does the business. Think he’s well handicapped and has the benefit of a recent run.
