Hello,
Looks like another meeting for people who are lucky to live in close proximity to Chepstow.
Anyone with considerable distance to travel may as well stay at home.Unfortuntaely I haven’t a clue how the authoriries handle the postponement of a meeting as illustrated by the Haydock fiasco…
Maybe Big Mac’s suggestion of a "remote" person or body decide the night before could be considered?
regards,
doyley
December 28, 2009 at 09:00 #266009I’m not sure who an early abandonment helps especially if the course could be fit on the day, if it’s abandoned you don’t go so if in doubt and don’t want to take the risk don’t go.
Don’t like Big Macs idea, what if covers are down? You can’t beat local knowledge and prefer them to give it every opportunity within reason.
In any case an early abandonment would allow the BBC to re schedule some crap film early.December 28, 2009 at 09:56 #266012I have just arrived at the course – it is still -1 and 90% of the course is still covered in frost.
I am not overly optimistic but at least the sun is out.
December 28, 2009 at 10:01 #266013Another check at 10.30; hope for everyones sake it passes.
December 28, 2009 at 10:11 #266015I suppose that if they did abandon, it would be because they couldn’t get the covers off in time for the first race? Big course. I suppose they could cancel a couple of races, and have a four race card.

Nah, I want it abandoned and the Welsh National cancelled, so I can get my ante-post non-runners money back.
December 28, 2009 at 10:15 #266018Big concern is the turn out of the home straight which has not been covered and is still in shade.
Have just walked part of the course and the areas exposed to the sun are clearing slowly.

According to John Parrot they will be covering Leopardstown if Chepstow is off
December 28, 2009 at 10:45 #266025Another inspection at 11:30.
I have just walked the course and where the sun has caught it the ground is crusty and soft underneath.
On the bend out of the home straight it is still very frosty and there are concerns that some of the areas under the covers may be frozen.
It is improving – it is just a question of will it improve in time
December 28, 2009 at 10:58 #266026AP thinks racing will be on
December 28, 2009 at 11:02 #266027Bob Cooper is confident
and it’s currently 4/9 to take place.PS Tim Long sounded very confident and it’s now 1/6 to take place.
December 28, 2009 at 11:08 #266028There is probably about a 100m stretch still covered in frost and this is the area they will be looking at.
Personal view is the 4/9 is a tad skinny – I would think 4/6 a more reasonable price.
I am more confident than I was when I first arrived.
December 28, 2009 at 11:16 #2660312/13 its on, 4/1 its off!Betfair at 11,13am
December 28, 2009 at 11:17 #266032Increasing confidence here that the waiting may well pay off – opinions of most is racing will go ahead – although a possibility some fences may be omitted but nothing official yet.
December 28, 2009 at 11:22 #266033I was looking at the market earlier and it was 4/7 to race,8/15 its off,but it was ev to lay it was off and 15/8 to lay it was on,so surely it would have been better to have £20 lay its off at ev,instead of a £20 win at 4/7 to say it was on!!If you think its on obviously!Strange market!!I never bothered!
December 28, 2009 at 11:25 #266034Agree it has been a strange market and a few here have been taking advantage of it.
The sun is now starting to hit the bend off the home straight, the white area is shrinking, slowly but surely.
December 28, 2009 at 11:28 #266035There"s money for it being off at 2/1 now!!!!
