Folks, please be gentle with me, as this is my first post on this forum.
What winners of certain races do you educated good folks put a line through when betting at Cheltenham in the same season?
For me the Challow Novice Hurdle at Newbury and the Katuo Star Novices Chase at Kempton.
Champ won at the festival, but not in the same season when winning at Newbury.
Typically the Challow winners go to the Ballymore or the Supreme and The Katuo winners go to the RSA/Browns Advisory.
Coneygree, did win the Kato and onto the success in the Gold Cup the same year.
Might Bite, fell when leading.Any other winners of certain races to put the red line through?
Im not so upto date on the Irish trials. But food for thought and has always influenced my betting at the festival.
Hope this starts a good discussion.

February 2, 2023 at 23:58 #1633451Welcome to the forum and excellent first post
The drinmore would be one
When was the last time a winner of it won at the festival?
I’d be personally inclined to ignore stats like these though myself
It’s about the individual horse not the race they ran in
The horse that won and failed last year or 10 years ago has no bearing on the current winner
When I bet on trends they always seem to get broken
Champ was unlucky to run in to city island who had been on some special hay
And Ruby admits denman should’ve won and it was pilot error

Cheltenham festival form is the best guide to future Cheltenham festivals IMO
The trials tend to be run at a slower pace and the going is also usually different before and just after Christmas to what it is in March.Blackbeard to conquer the World
February 3, 2023 at 00:58 #1633466Undoubtedly festival form is the best guide, but for the novice hurdler’s not much other than the bumper.
Which is not a races with fences.I attended for a day or two most years if work allows.
My work takes me to far away places but Cheltenham is like Xmas..Where ever I am, Its on the net radio
Happy punting..and hope I can contribute some sensible debate.

Sorry for going off topic, but I was curious if your username is inspired by Paul Webber’s hurdler/chaser of the 1990s. He was a marvellous horse, and the name evokes some great memories.
I also see there is another horse of the same name who has been racing in Ireland much more recently.
February 3, 2023 at 02:04 #1633472The entire premise that established Grade One races are mere trials for the March meeting is outrageous.
Still, welcome to the forum, Landafar. Like Marlingford, I was wondering if your username was inspired by the old Webber plodder.
PS It’s “Kauto”, not “Kato”. 😉
February 3, 2023 at 02:30 #1633473As has been said above, trends are something that I’m aware of but place little to no regard on their importance to what I feel will be the result of the race they’re supposedly influencing.
It’s a preposterous theory that (for example) Hermes Allen can’t win the Ballymore because stage star won the challow.

February 3, 2023 at 13:06 #1633503Ah, some old folks on here then, that remember Landafar.
Was running well in two Champion Hurdles before falling, IRC that particular hurdle on the downhill slope was moved to a different position a few years later.February 6, 2023 at 20:17 #1634276I remember him well; Land Afar was one of my favourite horses of the 90s. His overall level of form suggests he was a worthy participant in Champion Hurdles, but not a serious contender. However, he was certainly running a huge race on both occasions he fell. I have a suspicion he might have sneaked a place that first year.
I also recall a horse named Latalomne who experienced a similar fate in the Champion Chase a few years later. Two years in a row, he was belying his odds and putting up a great show only to fall two out.
February 6, 2023 at 21:50 #1634279Thanks for the comments, interesting about the Drinmore, I will do a wikki serach on that race, thanks.
Horses for courses, we all have our methods for picking winners or losers. In national hunt races, theres always the element of luck ..must not fall or get impeded by a faller.
Thanks for the info to all..
Nice to know Landafar is fondly remembered, died racing at Listowl 1998.

Totally THIS.^
Not for the first time, Gladders has saved me the bother of expressing a view.
Welcome to the forum, though.
There is a minor initiation ceremony, though – in absolutely every poll conducted on the forum it is mandatory for newcomers to vote for someone called “Chezza” for the first five years of their TRF membership.
Enjoy!
