I know this has been chewed over before but I am failing to see any consistency in some of these starts. To me calls a false in one race then lets them go in another when to me they seem the same scenario.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 12, 2025 at 17:00 #1723165It is very unsatisfactory but I don’t know the answer.
I do think some starters can be overly fussy but jockeys have to take responsibility as well. The Grand Annual false start was clearly never going to go.
Then again, the starter was happy with a very ragged start to the Supreme yesterday. And the standing start for the Champion Chase was a joke – Captain Guinness was almost broadside to the tape.
March 12, 2025 at 17:18 #1723182It took the commentator by surprise that he let them go in the Supreme.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 12, 2025 at 17:22 #1723186The starter wasn’t taking any chances in the bumper.
March 12, 2025 at 22:53 #1723261I know nobody wants to see lots of faffing about at the start, but some of the starts that have been permitted this week have been very uneven. It looks very shoddy for what is supposedly elite sport.
The only real solution that I can see would be starting stalls. They are used in Jumps races in Japan and Australia for example, so why not here?
March 13, 2025 at 13:21 #1723407First race. That was 1.01.
March 13, 2025 at 13:23 #1723409“Put them in the bin” as Alan Howes suggested when the race started…….
March 13, 2025 at 13:44 #1723418Richard Hoiles is correct they walk in far too far away from the tape.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 13, 2025 at 14:01 #1723434Another 1.01 certainty….
March 13, 2025 at 14:02 #1723435“They are going to fast”
Yes, they all are so let them go
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
March 13, 2025 at 14:02 #1723436Completely unsatisfactory. Owners and punters being massively short changed.
Jockeys at fault in some, charging at the tape, Starter in others looking far too fussy.
At least that standing start was reasonable.
March 13, 2025 at 14:02 #1723437This is getting ridiculous.
March 13, 2025 at 14:14 #1723449There is no obvious solution. When the jockeys are meant to walk forward they ‘get excited’ and start trotting fast towards the tape with a few breaking the tape. Restarting that and they do the same again. Standing start is the only thing left unless they put them in stalls.
March 13, 2025 at 15:07 #1723486“There is no obvious solution.”
Give them a 28-day ban. Would soon solve the problem.
March 13, 2025 at 16:42 #1723569Yet another false start.
If you’re a professional rider but you can’t get your horse to walk, you should be looking for a new job.
March 13, 2025 at 16:59 #1723576There’ll only be a dozen jockeys left based on what we’ve seen :)
March 13, 2025 at 17:05 #1723578Good.
If they can’t get the basics right, they shouldn’t be in the job.
