Gaz’s Way De Solzen

I see what you are saying, ‘CheltenhamSpecialist’, and i agree with the sentiment, however, Nina Carberry is as likely to ride Denman in the Gold Cup, as i am to get the leg up on the fine horseYeah! agreed …of course it won’t happen….that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a very good booking though, she’d do a fine job
also , the more I look at the race the more I feel YOU might even win on him…IF you got the mount that is :>) !!!

To be fair i probably would
January 22, 2010 at 19:18 #2714867/1 about the jockey who has won a Gold Cup and a Hennessey on Denman is too big imo! i got 2/1 about him 2 years ago when AP was 2/7!Ruby at 6/1 is also tempting should Kauto not get there! HARRY FILL YOUR BOOTS then announce SAM THOMAS KEEPS THE RIDE because you need nobody else to do the job! Simple as that!
January 23, 2010 at 09:16 #27155613 lengths…close enough when not fully fit. 2010 promises to be a tremendous duel and one to savour thats for sure.

Two ways of getting a horse to peak fitness. Denman has won 2 Hennessy’s carrying top weight, both times it was his first race of the season so he can’t be that hard to get fit.
He ran unfit 5 weeks before Cheltenham which must have brought him on a ton and the he’d work for 4 of those 5 weeks so just how unfit do you think he was. He din’t blow up, he ran on really well and there were no signs of him needing it.
Ok it wasn’t the best preparation in the world but no way is he going to improve 13 lengths….If Kauto gets there and gets into his normal rhythm the result is a foregone conclusion.

Some inconsitency here
Kauto beats a recovering Denman by 13 lengths and you say that cannot be reveresed
Yet reading your CH posts you confidently expect Go Native to reverese 13 lengths with Voler La Vadette even though Go Native had no heart problems
Please clarify the difference in the two lots of 13 lengths……………..
January 23, 2010 at 10:36 #271565What Fist is saying, (I think ), is that Denman was not far off peak fitness in last years Gold Cup. And what Fist probabaly means regarding Go Native is that he was reportedly not fully wound up and the ground wouldn’t have suited him at all. On the decent ground there would be less between Voler and Go Native.

thm, dont try working out Fists way of thinking, you will end up in the funny farm!
January 23, 2010 at 10:48 #271570The Denman that won the two Hennesseys and the 2008 Gold Cup could have given two stone to the Denman we saw in 2009
In my younger days I was a fairly sucessful middle distance runner, I know from experience just how long it takes to recover from injury and I’ve never had as bad an illness as Denman had…..that the lord!

He could have given two stone to the Denman we saw at Kempton, but not the one we saw at Cheltenham. Nicholls was clearly very easy on Denman after his treatment, but Denman wouldn’t have been all that far off peak fitness in the Gold Cup.
On a line through Exotic Dancer, Denman a fully fit Denman would probably have finished upsides Kauto Star (or thereabouts) last March. Let’s hope he sails through his prep, and it’s all set-up for the decider.
January 23, 2010 at 11:20 #271575On their very best form there"s very little between Kauto star and Denman, very little! trouble is they are like Chalk and Cheese and their ideal set of circumstances are not the same, so its a tough call!Denman for me on soft ground though! That Hennessey still gets to me! F****n Awesome! and you cant say that about Kauto"s King George!Magnificent that it was!One is Majestic the other is a F*****n Fighter!Denman suits the "F" word!It portrays aggressive almost sexual determination!Pure Poetry from the King! where"s me Quill?

How about the Denman that ran at Aintree?
January 23, 2010 at 11:54 #271579TheAntePostKing
I’d say there’s more between the two that that, starting (obviously with Arkle and Flyingbolt) I’d put Denman in 3rd and Mill House and Best Mate both in front of Kauto.
The latest King George field was very poor, lots of placed horses from previous years would have got a lot closer to Kauto , even that old rouge Kingscliffe would have been well clear of the rest of the field had he been running in the 2009 renewal ( and reproducing his run behind Kicking King of course)January 23, 2010 at 12:01 #271581Aintree Denman probably around a stone off his best again, CS.
Best Mate better than Kauto Star??
Not in this Universe, pal.
January 23, 2010 at 12:07 #271583So if he was 2 stone below his best first time out, then a stone below on his third run how did be get close to peak on his second run yet lose half of that in the few weeks before Aintree, It doesn’t make sense
more like a stone and a half short of best in the 2009 Gold Cup…that would be more logicalPS I was never a big fan of Best Mate, I just recognise his stature and one of the Greats. It’s no so long ago we were have the same ridiculous debate……..
Arkle v. Best Mate
……as we are now having……
Arkle . Kauto Star….don’t make me laugh
What short memories we have Collectively
January 23, 2010 at 13:28 #271599Aintree isn’t a track which plays to Denman’s strengths, as it is sharp and flat. It’s perfectly logical to expect him to run to a lower level at Aintree, than he did at Cheltenham….imho.
Kauto Star has vastly superior form in the book than Best Mate ever did. It is not even close.
The only person who compared Best Mate to Arkle was Terry Biddlecome – the rest of the planet were united in calling it a laughable suggestion.
January 23, 2010 at 14:14 #271604Two crap trainers decisions saw both Kauto and Denman beat at Aintree. Although it’s flat, Denman fully fit would have won. The same as Kauto when Our Vic beat him. In fact, if Kauto had the same injury that Denman had last season, there’s no way Nicholls would have run in all three of those races.
