Taquin Du Seuil won the JLT for the same owners as Neon Wolf (though that ones trained by Jonjo) so could go there, though probably up to the trainer. Looks to me like he’d be perfect for the JLT but maybe the Arkle is the route they’ll go down as that’ll be run at such a strong gallop. In my mind can rule out the RSA as the horse isn’t all about staying power to my eyes he’s more speed.
March 18, 2017 at 17:33 #1293444But even if they did think he’s a future Gold Cup horse I can’t see them wanting to bottom him out in the RSA.
March 18, 2017 at 17:39 #1293446The RSA is a graveyard my friend.
March 18, 2017 at 17:40 #1293447yep, so only the 2 races I need to back Neon Wolf in
March 19, 2017 at 08:03 #1293493I have
Yorkhill 8s Gold Cup
Apple’s Jade 16s ew Champion Hurdle
Altior 5/2 Champion ChaseBlueSky @pghenn.bsky.social
So don't run, just like the others always do
March 19, 2017 at 09:30 #1293498I’d say
Champion Chase – Min
RyanAir – Djakadam, Un De Sceaux
Gold Cup – Douvan, Yorkhill (tough one for Ruby)
Champion Hurdle – Faugheen, Arctic Fire
Stayers – Nichols Canyon, Shaneshill
Mares Hurdle – Limini, Vroom Vroom Mag
Arkle – Melon
RSA – PenhillMarch 19, 2017 at 10:35 #1293514Mares Hurdle – Limini, Vroom Vroom Mag

March 19, 2017 at 14:33 #1293546Any views on this MIN 12/1 Champion hurdle
With doubts over Annie Power and Faugheen,Melon going over fences was suggested by Mullins after supreme.Douvan may stay at 2ms while Djackadam go for KG and if he go to festival it be for Ryanair. That leave Willie with not a horse for champion hurdle. So with how well supreme work out Min was 2nd in front of the horse who went on to win Champion hurdle i think Min could revert back to hurdles next year.
Gord where are you mate you say be in here still no views from you on 2018
March 19, 2017 at 19:37 #1293570Darren,there are some horses that you know straight away will make a Chaser,Min is one of those pal.He was imo the biggest danger to Altior in this years Arkle. What I like to see early on in a Horses career is the ability to jump,I saw that in Top notch and he never let me down, well he did but thats Lucky 15’s for you.’Min’ is a lovely jumper of a fence and there’s no way he’s going back hurdling. There was more chance of Yorkhill doing that a fortnight before the Champion hurdle this year but again he’s showing he’s going the right way as a Chaser…Buveur d’air on the other hand couldn’t jump a fence for toffee,he hurdled them and got in way to close to going through them rather than over them.It was a brilliant decision of Nicky Hendersons, one I wished he hadn’t made mind.
Min is 12/1 for both the Champion hurdle and Champion chase pal…If I had to have a £100 on now it would be the latter for sure..13/8 Altior is ridiculous.March 19, 2017 at 22:35 #1293587Had great fun watching the festival this year having put some small bets on for the first time. Only had one winner but learned a lot from this forum and enjoyed reading all your thoughts.
Flushed with enthusiasm I’ve placed a few pounds on for next year:
Our Duke Gold Cup 33-1 E/W
River Wylde Ch Hurdle 33-1 E/W
Melon Arkle 16-1 win
Footpad Stayers 25-1 E/W
and have the last 2 in a win trixie with Min for the QMCCMelon looks chaser shaped to me, Min jumps decently and WPM said really grew and strengthened last summer…I reckon would have put it up to Altior this year. Footpad is too slow to win a Ch hurdle so I think will follow the path trodden by Nichols Canyon this year…wouldn’t be surprised if it runs in the French Ch hurdle this year as a test, and gets 5yo weight allowance in that.
GC ’18 was mentioned by trainer for Our Duke and I don’t think she is full of idle chatter or runs horses for the sake of it, as evidenced by her first GC runner.
NJH seemed keen on River Wylde and as he pointed out, he’s had 2 horses that came 3rd in the supreme that didn’t do too badly at subsequent festivals.
March 20, 2017 at 12:13 #1293615Afternoon all. First time on the thread.
I was a bit unimpressed by Altior TBH, and I certainly wouldn’t see him as a banker for the CC.
If I was going to have a play on next year, I’d go for Might Bite in the GC (the division badly needs a superstar and he, whilst being a nutcase, looks like its best chance at the moment), and Willougby Court at an amazing 20/1 in the Stayers.
250/1 double: I’ll take it for a bit of sport.
Happy Punting!
March 20, 2017 at 13:20 #1293619I did Captain Forez for the 2018 Arkle the day of the Dovecote this year, got 66s. Very happy with that although his form really isn’t stacking up to much these days. Hoping he’ll come out at either Ayr or Aintree.
I’d be all over Min for the Champion Chase, 12/1 on show currently is a great price.
Another I’ve been impressed with all year is Brio Conti, he was only beaten 1/2 length by Constantine Bay at Haydock earlier in the year, then absolutely bolted up at Kempton on Saturday in the Martin Pipe consolation race. To me he looked every inch a chaser and Nicholls tends to do well with these types of horses. I’d be very interested in him for the JLT.
I’ll back Melon for either the Arkle or Champion Chase the moment i hear anything regarding his target for the season.
March 20, 2017 at 14:22 #1293625MELON – 16/1 – ARKLE.
Melon ran a cracking race to finish second in the Supreme on just his second run over hurdles.
He’s got plenty of scope and Mullins has hinted he would ‘Probably’ go chasing.
If he is sent chasing, that 16/1 will be long gone.March 20, 2017 at 14:39 #1293626Welcome to the forum awracing, I agree he ran a huge race and has bags of potential. If he does go chasing that is a very good price, if he were mine I think I’d like a shot at the Champion Hurdle 1st.
good luck

If he is sent chasing, that 16/1 will be long gone. The 16/1 looks good based on what evidence? If he jumps his fences as low as his hurdles at Leopardstown then you might even get 1000/1 on the ‘machine’. Too much guesswork in my opinion. He does travel very well, but what if he is stepped up in trip? Why not the JLT?
March 20, 2017 at 22:12 #1293665The antipost markets haven’t been kind to me over the last few years. At the 2016 festival, over £2700 of A/P bets went without a run and the few tickets that did make it,didn’t really cut much ice. The 2017 festival wasn’t much better, with just over £1000 of A/P returning nothing (most of it on Melon and Crack Mome). Although i’m eager to get stuck in again at this early stage this year,i feel i need a change of tactics. Therefore,no bets will be struck for the 2018 festival until the NRNB comes into play. Some interesting novices i’ll be keeping on side come October are ; Cause Toujours (novice hurdles), Senewalk (novice hurdles) Tombstone (novice chasing) and a dark horse – Action Replay (novice chasing). All 4 should handsomely pay their way through the Winter months, with the latter starting off on a lowly mark and could develope into a Close Brothers candidate come the 2018 festival.
I wish all yee brave folk that are willing to have a punt at this early stage good luck, but this year, its not for me #discipline
March 21, 2017 at 01:00 #1293672I’ve backed at this early stage : -Might Bite – Gold Cup 14/1
-Apples Jade – Stayers 14/1
-Min – Champion Chase 12/1
-Disko – Ryanair 20/1
-Monalee – RSA 16/1
-Yorkhill and Un De Sceaux for the King George 10/1 and 14/1 respectively.I will probably add Might Bite to my King George book as 5/1 will look a silly price if he turns up in any kind of form.
