Yup, I’d agree with that guys. I’ve enjoyed The National chat this week, as it felt like a “change of scenery”. Most of my days now will be spent worrying about withdrawals or setbacks………….and not too many big prizes still to come.
February 17, 2017 at 01:12 #1287679Thanks MoM, a few to get excited about, and sadly, the usual setbacks lol.
I really like GLV each way, I think he’s solid, while I realise I’m unlikely to have an RSA Runner out of that, never mind the winner, but hopefully one of them will give me a run.
Yeah, really happy with The Native River Double, as I mentioned The Hennessy/Cheltenham Gold Cup Double for him last spring, and good when a plan comes together, and can’t believe how his season has went, even better than I expected. Now just to get him there. It would be nice, but I’ve been here before with bets like that, and there’s always a sting in the tail, but can’t complain, he’s given me some fair excitement this season, and good to call one right, as there’s plenty we call wrong lol

February 17, 2017 at 13:24 #1287701THE STORYTELLER 12-1 E/W (MP) -the only single bet for this Cheltenham
February 18, 2017 at 12:13 #1287863With the forum going very quite in recent days, i thought i’d open myself up for abuse and critisizm, but hopefully some talking points by giving my selections for the opening day of the festival. Bare in mind that at this early point, some may turn out to be nons.
Supreme – Melon. Banged the drum for ages about this horse and another horse of Willies. The chat coming out from the stable is that this one could be special. Its woefully short now but the bookies don’t get it wrong to often and its favourite for a reason.
Arkle – Altior. Stand up job if it turns up for this. So far clear on ratings with the potential to go on to be better again next season. Shame Mins missed out because at least he would of busseled up the fav and made it a race. My betting proposition is Cloudy Dream. Jefferson thinks alot of this horse. Tried giving 8lb to Buveur Dair eatier in the season but got blown away on the run in. Jefferson states that his horse will be better on a better surface and is an e/w selection.
Ultima – Champers on ice. Same connections as the winner last year. Expensive purchase when teaming up with the Pipes.Looks to of been plotted up for this after some incuspicous runs. Runs of 143 which will give him a nice racing weight. Ultra competitive race which should serve up a great finish.
Champion Hurdle – Sceaux Royal. A very tentitive e/w bet. A shockingly poor renewal. The favs a chaser and the 2nd favs a stayer. I’d of prefered it if they didn’t run Sceaux Royal today in the kingwell on heavy ground and kept him fresh for better ground at the festival. Its not a race im getting stuck into.
Mares Hurdle – Vroom Vroom Mag. I think Willie will offer up Vroom for this and put Limini in the County. Won this last year easily but will face stiff competiton from Apples Jade and Jers girl. Hit the crossbar with Polly Peachum 2 years ago at a price but i think the winner will come from the 3 afore mentioned horses.
National Hunt Chase – Arpege D’alene. Resolute galloper and the further the better for this one. Nicholls has said that this is his best chance of a winner at this years festival. I fear Fletchers Flyer as Fry stated that his whole season has been built around this race and the Irish National at the start of the season. Theirs been money about for Edwulf lately but i dont think his jumping is up to scratch and will make to many mistakes over 4m.
Close Brothers – Hells Kitchen. This fella is clearly better than his current mark of 138. Pulled his way round Ascot for 2m until fading in the last 2f behind the then rated 160 Different Gravey (beaten 9l). The handicap spread for last years was 4lb (136 – 140) so this boys hopefully been kept for this. Its another brutally competitive handicap but if you watch this ones Ascot run, you’ll understand why im sweet on his chances.
I hope i’ve not bored you all but i thought it would give us a few talking points.
February 18, 2017 at 13:08 #1287882ADDED BEYOND CONCEIT 25/1 SUPREME
February 18, 2017 at 13:39 #1287891ADDED BEYOND CONCEIT 25/1 SUPREME
Not sure what will happen in the Supreme but what a great ride from Nico on Beyond Conceit there.
February 19, 2017 at 09:35 #1288018Took some 25’s on Yorkhill for the Champion on BF. It would be a devastating blow if they pulled him from the JLT. After Vatourgate last year i would not be surprised in the least if it happened again.
Added another Tenner e/w on MTOY @ 50’s, shame all the NRNB has gone but still 50’s is too big. Fair enough he could be on the downward slope, but i feel if they get him right he could certainly run into a place.
Overall quite happy with Brain Power & MTOY as my bets.
February 19, 2017 at 20:58 #1288117Mares Hurdle
Lifeboat Mona 20-1Champion Chase
Traffic Fluide 33-1Triumph Hurdle
Defi Du Seuil 14-1
Soldier In Action 33-1Gold Cup
Blaklion 33-1 and 150-1To win any race
Battleford 10-1I am happy to put a line through Traffic Fluide and Soldier in Action, but as it is getting closer now I will definitely use the NRNB which I find invaluable
I do not think any horse will trouble Harry in this but I think Zarkandar is overpriced at 25-1 to place, but I will only bet NRNB from now on, and I have bet him each way at 20-1.
February 19, 2017 at 20:59 #1288118Keeper hill 240.0 Neptune.
Only £4 availableReceived weight when beating messire des obeaux.
Won his last 3 starts.
If messire des obeaux is a general 10/1 shot this guy isn’t a 240.0 shot.
Don’t fancy him to win, but with the next biggest price to back only being 34.0 and it being an open race, with plenty in the race set to be going else where, I would expect him to be at least a 50/50 shot to turn up hereFebruary 19, 2017 at 21:05 #1288123I forgot to add Some Plan at 16-1 each way NRNB for The Arkle
February 19, 2017 at 21:47 #1288131ADDED: Acapella Bourgeois 16/1 NRNB RSA
February 19, 2017 at 22:07 #1288135Last one for me tonight is Empire of Dirt at 7-1 in The Ryanair.
February 20, 2017 at 02:19 #1288148Good luck with him Lemons, 7’s may look a bit skinny, but even with a few weeks to go, that looks a decent price. I’m struggling to see why he isn’t favourite.

What do you mean by NRNB has gone?
Not sure I understand that bit.
Also on MTOY antepost before and after NRNB each way at 50s, 33s and 20/1

As in all the 50’s & 40’s NRNB has gone. Best price 33’s NRNB now
February 21, 2017 at 14:14 #1288285Wonder how many accas and specials have gone up in smoke today? It’s desperately sad news losing one of the main draws of the festival to injury and I hope he makes a speedy recovery…
My best acca has gone though…even though I don’t think he would have won, I put him in a just in case bet with Altior at 7/4, Douvan at 1/2 and Harry at 9/4 and may have looked at a cash out on the day…ah well…bet there’s plenty who’ve lost bigger and better bets!
Can someone start up a campaign to change the rules on antepost regarding multiples…always thought it ridiculous that the whole bet goes when one pulls out…surely a fourfold should just become a treble…treble a double etc…
