Hi Nathan,
Can only assume that was before SS got retired because I would be on SS if he hadn’t retired. I definitely haven’t been the biggest fan of Douvan but I like him more every run.January 3, 2017 at 01:50 #1280029Supreme – Moon Racer 6/1 & 7/1

My sort of bet that ‘MOM’…Like you say if he gets there he wins. His ‘Thistlecrack’ run tells you he will.Trained for one race this year and one next year if he doesn’t burst a blood vessel again.

Exactly
I’ve found myself betting him daily in antepost multis and even as a single (I rarely do antepost singles).
I firstly hope he gets there fit and well. And secondly hope he doesn’t burst a blood vessel whilst running. He absolutely wins if he’s sound.
January 3, 2017 at 18:37 #1280116Just had a speculative fifty bob EW treble on horses I think will turn up in ‘secondary’ target races:
MOON RACER CHAMPION HURDLE 50S
DJAKADAM RYANAIR 14S
WHISPER RSA 16S
January 3, 2017 at 19:45 #1280125Just had a speculative fifty bob EW treble on horses I think will turn up in ‘secondary’ target races:
MOON RACER CHAMPION HURDLE 50S
DJAKADAM RYANAIR 14S
WHISPER RSA 16S
I can see the Djakadam bet, but not the other two. They will leave Djakadam in both races and pick the easiest target. His ‘chance’ in the Gold Cup has always hinged on ‘nothing’ turning up. That said I don’t think he is good enough to win either race.
I wouldn’t take 500/1 Moon Racer for the Champion Hurdle. It isn’t as if he is a shoe-in for the Supreme. Amazed if they give it a second thought.
As I discussed with VTC, Russell will want to ride one in the RSA and one in the JLT. I expect Whisper to go JLT but there is a pretty strong chance the ground will be too quick wherever he goes.
January 3, 2017 at 20:21 #1280127A few disappointments but one or two still in with a shout.
Champion Hurdle – Apple’s Jade 16/1 (WIN) & Brain Power 33/1 (EW)
Still unconvinced that this is not the better target for Apple’s Jade but the Petit Mouchoir win has probably closed the door. Brain Power was extremely impressive in a handicap and needs to do something similar under different conditions in a trial race.
Triumph – Defi Du Seuil 16/1 (W)
Clearly has a massive engine. Ground a possible issue. Hobbs consistently talking about Triumph so it would be a major about turn if he were re-routed to the Supreme.
Neptune – Robin Roe 20/1 (W) & Invitation Only 10/1 (W) & Finian’s Oscar 25/1 (W)
Fast turning into a nightmare. Robin Roe and Invitation Only were the two horses best supported in the ante-post market. Who knows what would have happened with Robin Roe and Invitation Only was woeful at Navan. Now it appears Finian’s Oscar is going Tolworth??????? I know the Supreme looks weak but even so?
Gold Cup – Thistlecrack 5/1 (W) & Coneygree 10/1 (W)
On the basis of actual achievement I think Thistlecrack is now a shocking price. I am not confident at all. I think it is very unlikely that we will see Coneygree.
Ryanair – Empire Of Dirt 40/1 (W)
In terms of price by far and away the best bet I have got but it appears it will need a miracle for him to be given the chance to show that he is a proper Grade 1 horse.
RSA – Mall Dini 33/1 (EW) & Our Duke 10/1 (W)
Both look to have decent chances. Mall Dini the better of two if they can get him back to last year’s level and he gets his ground.
Arkle – Ordinary World 50/1 (EW)
Didn’t try to beat Min. Would almost certainly only run here if small field. Decent chance in Grand Annual.
JLT – Clan Des Obeaux 12/1 (W)
Very disappointing at Cheltenham. Needs a much stronger ride than STD will ever be capable of so absolutely no chance.
Albert Bartlett – Death Duty 12/1 (W)
Hasn’t done anything wrong so far but definite ground concern.
Champion Chase – Ar Mad 50/1 (EW)
Probably the only horse who could put it up to Douvan but will need to translate right-handed form. Also jockey sidelined. Give Dickie a go!
January 3, 2017 at 20:33 #1280133stilvi, I’m just hoping that they have a sudden change of mind about the G1 for Empire of Dirt, once the National weights have been revealed…………..I think that’s the best we can cling to right now.

January 5, 2017 at 08:35 #1280276Didnt know where best to put this – interview with Elliot in todays Irish independent.
Empire of dirt
Empire Of Dirt, a Cheltenham Festival winner for Colm Murphy which followed up even more impressively on his debut for Elliott (above) in the Troytown Chase in November, will likely be seen next in the Stan James Irish Gold Cup on February 12 – but he has an even bigger target.Elliott said: “After Leopardstown the aim is the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree.” Empire Of Dirt is 20/1 with one firm for that race.
Blow by Blow and Lucky Pass
Blow By Blow and Elliott, his new trainer, has issued an update on the Gigginstown steed.“He had a setback but nothing major. I am looking to going hurdling with him in four to six weeks’ time,” he said.
Blow By Blow is as short as 16/1 for the Neptune Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Another horse of the Elliott-Gigginstown axis, Lucky Pass, has been absent since winning a bumper for Mullins at the 2015 Leopardstown Christmas festival.
Elliott said: “He’s grand, we should see him over a hurdle in February.”
January 5, 2017 at 10:15 #1280285Have the following horses to win any race at the festival:
Melon (12/1)
Bellshill (7/1)
Champagne Fever (16/1)
Killultagh Vic (10/1)
Think CF and KV are unlikely to appear at this stage but holding out hope that Melon turns out to be all that they said he was..
Arkle – Min (4/1)
Ryanair – Un De Sceaux (6/1)
JLT – American Tom e/w (10/1)
Mares Novice Hurdle – Asthuria (7 to 1)
Triumph – Bapaume (10 to 1)
Albert Bartlett – Penhill e/w (16/1)
; Augusta Kate e/w (14/1)
Gold Cup – Djakadam e/w at 14/1
; Don Poli e/w (33/1)
I also have a number of different doubles, trebles, 4-ways and 5-way accas all at small stakes/large odds

Thanks.
Despite it being the wrong trip what happens if he wins that race? It would confirm that, other than possibly Don Cossack, he is Gigginstown’s best chaser. Why would you then skip the Festival to take in a totally unsuitable race?
January 5, 2017 at 16:57 #1280327Added another tenner on Alpha Des Obeaux at 20s and also done a treble for £7 on Douvan (4/7), Altior (5/4) and Thistkecrack (10/11) at 11/2
