I bet him for The 2015 Gold Cup after, and to be honest was a bit disappointed with the 50’s and 66’s offered, but took it anyway, thought it was a taking performance on Tuesday.
It’s a long old time between now and Cheltenham 2015, but I think he’ll take the GC route anyway, as I said, worth a pop.
You musn’t possess my silver tongue Bobby SkyBet offered me 100/1 to a max bet of £25. Hand snapped off!
March 16, 2014 at 15:53 #472204I was going to pm you Boz to see who offered you it. I was on to every firm I’ve got an account with on Wednesday, and the best I could get was 66’s.
Well done with the 100’s. Skybet was one of the firms I tried, but they only offered me 50’s…..ya lucky ****. I did the rounds again this morning, when I seen you got 100’s, but again, 50’s for me I’d love to say they were running scared of me, but Skybet is very definitely a losing account of mine lol it’s car crash material.
March 16, 2014 at 16:00 #472209Best piece of advice I can offer (please don’t take it as patronising) is to lie your way through and claim you’ve been offered a big price with a rival firm. You’d be surprised at how many firms agree to match or better the said price just to get your custom. Laddies in particular seem keen on matching a big price if you tell them Hills have offered it.
Hope that helps
March 16, 2014 at 16:02 #472211Also Holywell is a solid handicapper, it’s possible he can win some good races next season but i think it’s a bit of a stretch to put him in the same class/promise section as Taquin du Seuil.
He’s worth a pop Jamsym. The way he travelled into the straight in the 3 miler, was a carbon copy of the way he travelled into the straight in The Pertemps………trained to the absolute minute.
And the common denominator a decent pace and 20+ runners, two things that he is far from certain to get in a Gold Cup. My guess is if they go down the Gold Cup route he is only going to shorten if he wins a big field handicap. Should they go small field condition races I can see him struggling and the price drifting.
March 16, 2014 at 16:04 #472213Not at all Boz, I can assure you I always try that trick, the problem is, I’ve got a few accounts where I’ve worn that one out. I took the 66’s with Stan James, but they wouldn’t even give me £25 each way

Ye, I tried to twist their arms at SkyBet to stretch to £25e/w but no dice. Still, £12.50e/w at 100/1 won’t have me complaining should the cards fall my way
March 16, 2014 at 19:00 #472243I’d want to see if Vautour is going chasing or not before backing anything for the Champion next year. I’m not one for over-rating novice form, but this one may be out of the ordinary. "On another level" to the impressive Faugheen according to Mr. Mullins.
March 19, 2014 at 00:54 #472504Hedged my bets somewhat and backed Vautour for the Arkle and the Champion Hurdle – he was incredibly impressive, so thought it’s best to cover the options at this point. I know Mullins has implied he’ll go chasing, but you’d think if you had a horse that won the Supreme like that, you’d want to at least think about the CH.
Have also had a bet on The Megabeast to win the Champion Chase. Rest assured, if he comes back fit, the 4/1 will look huge as he roars up the hill and quite literally pisses on Sire De Grugy’s face.

at 33/1 is the e/w Ante-Post bet for next years Gold Cup,there’s no doubting this fellows stamina, the owners want him there,he’s got the ‘Charter Party’ profile and is trained by a Master of readying one for the big one.
Taquin de Seuil
would be going the Ryanair route if he was mine as he has stamina limitations,Class horse that he is. There’s not a pound between them in my book.
Who am I to question the official handicapper? He rates
Holywell
as the best Novice 3m chaser to come out of the festival and rates him at 157,thats 2lb more than his Non-staying stablemate
Taquin de seuil
at 155.50/1 for the Gold Cup wont last, particularly now that the King of hindsight Ginge has jumped on my bandwagon!

March 20, 2014 at 12:25 #472638Gord what your thoughts on my ap bets for 2015
March 21, 2014 at 15:10 #472770I’ve had a few quid on O’Faolins Boy for the Gold Cup. Can’t see any of the current contenders being good enough in 12 months time. The last two RSA winners have gone onto Gold Cup glory and whilst my first thoughts were it wasn’t much of a race, he won despite a twisted shoe and is rapidly improving. 20/1 rates a reasonable bet. Champagne Fever is hugely exciting but is unproven at 3 miles under rules so is a no bet at this point. Taq De S could be a challenger but needs to brush up his jumping and the same could be said for Don Cossack.
For the Champ Hurdle i’ve gone with Un De Sceuax. Hugely exciting, ranks under the could be anything category, 10/1 at this stage is fair. Too many excuses for the regular defeats of TNO and MTOY and i’ve had a few quid on Jezki at 8.6 on Betfair cos i think that was a touch overpriced.
Too many questions about the likes of Vautour to bother at this point. You have to divide the odds by 3 to even consider a bet.

Well that was a bit of a shocker. I doubt even connections were expecting that sort of performance. Easily the best he has travelled and jumped for McCoy. Fortunately, I persuaded myself to take 50/1 but even that was on the basis that it might be Cheltenham that was the key rather than the big field. After that I would have him near enough favourite but clearly you need plenty of luck just to make the race.
