Less than 25,000 for a Champions League Match – absolutely amazed.
Don’t get me wrong, I support Boro who have seen a massive reduction in fans over recent years, but for Chelsea to attract less than 25,000 for a Champions League match is absolutely amazing.
Let me point out that Chelsea are the biggest club in London at present, they have won the Premier League twice in recent seasons, they are the FA Cup holders, and they have some superstars playing for them.
More importantly, let me also point out that they REDUCED the cost of tickets for tonight’s game – yet half the stadium is empty for a Champions League game – the biggest club competition in the world.
No matter who Celtic, Rangers, Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool play at home, I guarantee you that their respective stadiums will be full for their Champions League games, without having to reduce the price of tickets – let me also point out that their stadiums can hold more fans than Stamford Bridge.
To say I am in shock at Chelese’s attendance is an undestatement

September 18, 2007 at 22:21 #115518A surprising attendance Mike. Can’t think why this should be.
Can’t be due to southern softies not wanting to go out in the cold as, like you say, Arsenal get the crowds.
Interesting to see what their next Champion League home gate is. Seems odd to think that they only got 10 times what Chester City get for a Div 2 home game.
September 19, 2007 at 19:52 #115583Firstly I am a Chelsea fan.I think the reason for such a low attendance is the arrogance of many blue’s fans. Most were probably thinking won’t bother with this round of games cos I’ll save my money for when the big boys turn up when we qualify for the next stage and it all gets a bit more interesting. If they carry on playing like that they will get neither!

September 19, 2007 at 23:49 #115600Yes, it appears that he has gone!
September 20, 2007 at 00:07 #115602It also appears that Roman Abromovic was seriously concerned about the attendance at Tueaday’s game
