Hope it dont close , always saddens me when a course closes , but the viewing situation does look odd .
April 2, 2026 at 01:03 #1761725Due to the position of the Grandstand all you see are the horses going to post and the last 2 furlongs of the race
I’ve been about 3 times since it opened and it has zero atmosphere. I prefer to travel the extra 30 miles and go to Newmarket.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 2, 2026 at 10:54 #1761744If it does close, an excellent opportunity to slightly reduce the over bloated fixture list. Doubt the opportunity would be taken though.

People seem to panic when one of way too many racecourses is about to be closed. Racing had a great time throughout the 80s, 90s and so on without Chelmsford AW course. Even without it, there is just too much Racing. I’ve said this numerous times and I’ll repeat myself, there is so much AW crap that you have turf bred horses that never ran on turf!!!!
Why????? Is this trend good for Racing at all?April 2, 2026 at 18:37 #1761772I doubt I’ll even watch the AW finals tomorrow.
The more I know the less I understand.
April 2, 2026 at 19:51 #1761787The only racing worth watching tomorrow is at The Curragh.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
April 3, 2026 at 17:25 #1761841And so said all of us! But they won’t listen. Irrelevant AW racing has killed the sport. That’s why anyone visiting a betting shop simply plays on the fruit machines. But these are additive because there is no gap between bets, so punters don’t get any breathing space to clear their heads. Increasing tax on these machines is good for the country as a whole as a reduction in tax revenues will be more than offset by a reduction dealing with problem gamblers.
April 15, 2026 at 15:45 #1763689Their next three fixtures for 23 and 30 of April and 7 May have now all been moved to Southwell.
May 26, 2026 at 19:02 #1767395I think, reading between the lines. Its over for Chelmsford.
