Haven’t been able to watch racing recently – decided this afternoon to relax and put Racing UK on – in the first race I watched this poor chap fell at the final hurdle when in contention. He was getting up and I thought he would be fine … minutes later the commentator is saying he’s "broken down" – and it was not good news – did he mean he’d broken a leg???

‘broken down’ is the common term for tendon injuries, however for some reason in recent years for some reason it has become common for a horse with any sort of leg injury to be referred to as broken down.

As he fell at a fence, I imagine it would be a broken leg over a tendon injury but it is something I find very frustrating as it can be very misleading to people!

I too am now struggling to watch the racing, especially the jumps and hurdles, although the flat has seemed especially bad this year. RIP Cheatingsideoftown, so very very sad. Another beautiful horse gone. :( :(

  Yes same here, dreading the build up of the jumps season now the flat is winding down, it always seems to be the last jump/hurdle where they mis-judge due to being so tired. I can hardly watch it now, although as mamamia says the flat has been particularly bad this year.
If you love horses you are always going to worry about them, those little legs just don’t seem up to carrying their bodies.
RIP Cheatingsideoftown  another sad loss of a beautiful horse.

    RIP

Cheatingsideoftown broke his shoulder in the fall.

Sadly the stable lost Four Fiddlers 2 days after.

Very sad few days for the stable. Thanks for the info about what actually happened to Cheatingsideoftown – not a "breakdown" as such … I really thought he was getting up OK and very sad to discover that wasn’t the case …

Just got back and had a chance to watch the replay. Such a sad outcome. Didn’t look too bad a fall, but sometimes it’s the easier ones that lead to tragic results. RIP.
