October 21, 2009 at 12:49 #254570Buy it.
Don’t hesitate.
October 21, 2009 at 13:02 #254576I got Racehorses for the first time last March. Superb, except for the tacky dust jacket. Cant wait to open the jumps version when I get home in November. Well worth the money imo.
October 21, 2009 at 14:58 #254587Echo Cav and Grass’s words. If you get just one racing book make it this one (or two). I have both Racehorses and Chasers & Hurdlers going back 25 years and would not be without them. They’re not known as the Racing Bible for nothing. Brilliant book for the racing enthusiast, well worth £70.

October 21, 2009 at 15:32 #254592The Racehorses extract is downloading ok. Features Ramonti’s essay from 2007. Will give you a flavour of what you can expect.

Like Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack they would probably be half the price if printed on A4 but it would be the end of civilization as we know it if that ever happened. The longer essays on high-profile horses continue to be mini-masterpieces of grammatical construction: flowing, to-the-point, occasionally humourous, always informative, yet easily accessible.
Fine books and value at the outwardly terrifying price of £70
Stash the dust jackets in a shoebox and admire the green leatherette
October 21, 2009 at 17:31 #254626a visceral pleasure to simply hold them and leaf through the aromatic glossy pages
admire the green leatherette
Stop being disgusting. There may be children reading.

Cocoa and Timeform every nightThank gawd for small pleasures
October 21, 2009 at 18:08 #254640Presumably the ‘green leatherette’ volumes are from the ‘Racehorses Of…’ series, and should therefore be avoided on taste grounds?
All my C&H copies are in classic burgundy leatherette. The pages do smell nice though.
