Colm Murphy has stated that there is a possibility of this happening. What does everyone make of that?
February 28, 2007 at 12:35 #42225Think Barry Cash would be a better choice.
February 28, 2007 at 13:01 #42226Swan was a top hurdles rider but has not ridden competitively for 3 years since his retirement.
Surely better to engage a current competitive rider
February 28, 2007 at 13:22 #42227Thought the Swan suggestion was a wind up! Why would Ruby NOT be available – has Rigmarole been supplemented?

Ruby may be required for Desert Quest, who needs top of the ground and must be 66’s to run at the moment.
February 28, 2007 at 13:36 #42229I think Mr Walsh will be aboard.. DQ would surely be more likely to run in the county hurdle unless the ground was good to firm and thats a 100/1 chance
February 28, 2007 at 13:44 #42230what a farce, surely someone like Slippers Madden would be more suitable, Charlie hasn’t ridden in about three years
February 28, 2007 at 13:49 #42231Can’t see how Charlie’s quiet style would suit Inca anyway?
February 28, 2007 at 15:47 #42232talking of rigmorole, what has happened to him?
February 28, 2007 at 16:06 #42233Reading the piece in the sporting life it sounds to me like words are being put in Murphy’s mouth..
February 28, 2007 at 16:12 #42234If Swan rides and the horse loses then everyone will blame the jockey and not the horse. Maybe the trainer and owners think he may not be good enough to win it this year so are getting their excuses ready. Either that or they are taking an almighty gamble that the horse is so good that he will win with a jockey that isn’t match fit as it were.
February 28, 2007 at 16:13 #42235Off-topic, but given that someone asked – Rigmarole has qualified with the Blackmore & Sparkford Vale Hunt and is likely to be running in point-to-points/hunter chases at some point this season.
February 28, 2007 at 17:43 #42236cheers happy jack
will be nice to see him in hunter chases
hopefully he can find some form

Charlie Swan may not be riding competitively in racing but i saw him out showjumping and he is still as fit as a fiddle and has lost none of his skills. His partner and himself were in another league to anyone else. He’s still ‘got it’.
As for him riding Brave Inca i think it’s a similar rumour as in the John Francome and Desert Orchid one that did the rounds some years ago. I can’t see it happening but IF it did i wouldn’t be worried about CS not being up to scratch.
February 28, 2007 at 22:34 #42238Paul Nicholls has never had a problem letting Ruby off one of his to ride for Willie Mullins before – eg Hedgehunter in the 2005 & 2006 Nationals as well as the Gold Cup in 2006 so I can’t see Ruby not riding Brave Inca on the day.

what has Wille Mullins got to do with Brave Inca?
March 1, 2007 at 09:53 #42240Maybe I should have specified that I was only using the Hedgehunter example to show that Paul Nicholls doesn’t insist on Ruby riding for him if he only has no-hopers and Ruby has another potential good ride in a race.
Didn’t really think that was necessary though but anyway.
