Speaking of The Oaks, haven’t even seen them discuss the race yet.
Big feature on The Derby mind you.
Car crash telly it really is, couldn’t have put together a more uninspiring team to represent horse racing.
May 31, 2013 at 14:01 #441282And Nick Luck continuing to do sterling work as a continuity announcer. It now appears mind boggling how in days of old Francome and McGrath could run through the horses without someone introducing them.
Keep hearing that those in charge are taking on board viewer comments. If this is true they are clearly just ignoring them and sinking deeper and deeper.
May 31, 2013 at 14:07 #441284Here we go, another Derby preview.
I guess all this video footage will be repeated tomorrow.
The Oaks is being brushed under the carpet as some Handicap race.
Disgrace.
Don’t even get me started on the "betting" angle on this show.
I would really lose my ragg.
May 31, 2013 at 14:09 #441285OK **** me another fashion show.
**** Off.
May 31, 2013 at 16:33 #441308It wasn’t too bad until they started covering the Oaks prpoer. No runners in the paddock…..they managed to do it for the support card, so why not the big race. they could have interviewed connections in the "fashion slot". I felt Clare was struggling picking the fillies out on the way to start/parade as if she had been dropped in it by a producer.
Did like the history of the Durdans bit, Clare is good at that sort of thing.
Too much post race analysis every programme.
Shall I record the Derby tomorrow & do stuff while it is live?May 31, 2013 at 17:48 #441318I’m fortunate to have Racing UK I’ll be watching their coverage and just turn to C4 for Simon Holt’s commentaries.
May 31, 2013 at 19:14 #441335Oh, Emma Spencer, what a clanger!
The question to Neil Callan about his ‘upcoming ride’ on Sri Putra was probably not what he wanted! Credit to him for taking it in good humour.

I’d prefer to see the horses prior to a race than three or four replays of what’s just taken place.
Those William Hill adverts are another time consuming nuisance
May 31, 2013 at 20:15 #441350Has anyone any REAL idea why they are not showing runners before the races….especially the classics & other important ones, but manage to show them for the less important ones? It just doesn’t make sense. Do they want to lose viewers?
All the equestrian boards have the same message….not enough shots of the runners in the paddock. Why can’t they listen & do something?May 31, 2013 at 20:16 #441352Has anyone any REAL idea why they are not showing runners before the races….especially the classics & other important ones, but manage to show them for the less important ones? But why, why, why will they not listen to their viewers?!May 31, 2013 at 21:49 #441365Appears to be all they care about is achieving good audience figures, so while they have that they won’t listen to any criticism.
I agree about the William Hill adverts being annoying, but that is paying for their coverage.
June 8, 2013 at 12:16 #442181I’ve decided that Cunningham talks too much and in too much detail for a Saturday afternoon terrestrial broadcast. I like listening to him on RUK as we’re watching race previews or replays but this is Channel 4
Too much post race footage, not enough pre race horses.
Too much Cunningham. One of the most interesting aspects of the BBC coverage was Balding discussing the horses with someone else before the race.
The producers comments about it being good to only focus on one or two of the horses prior to a race – poppycock. The vast majority want to see the horses and the race. Ditch four of the six replays we’re getting and show more of the horses in the paddock or going down.
I’ve noticed the infernal touchscreen table has been given more time in the last couple of weeks.
June 8, 2013 at 14:36 #442192Fitzy has been diabolical this afternoon. Even getting stats wrong.
June 8, 2013 at 18:46 #442206Persad – amateurish rubbish.
Spencer – slapper.
Fitzgerald- just repeats what someone else has just said (Persad guilty of that as well) in a voice that gets very wearing after a very short time.
Cunningham almost having to manage on his own, felt sorry for him.Agree about the lack of shots of horses before the race, producer seems to know feck all about what punters and followers of racing want.
But things won’t change, nobody listens, nobody cares,
they
know what
WE
want.

I thought for a very short time a few months ago that the sight of hairy hands touching the screen with varying degrees of hesitation had been ditched but sadly not.
It has become a real irritation again in recent weeks. We even had the sight of Emma Spencer’s dainty fingers hovering over and pressing buttons on the screen recently.
Got job we never saw McCririck’s huge, podgy, ring-festooned fingers jabbing down at the poor, unsuspecting touch-screen….
In other news, I can’t believe that I am actually warming to the ever-smiling Rishi Persad. He seems to have put some weight on, the lad, judging by his increasingly well-fed face.
June 9, 2013 at 10:44 #442253Persad may not be particularly great, but at least he is somewhat likeable.
Nick Luck looks like he is doing a dramatic reading everytime he is on screen. "You just sense that …" every sentence. I wonder if during intercourse he speaks to himself, progressively getting louder and louder until a hype crescendo ; "You just sensed TODAY MIGHT BE THE DAY". No matter how annoying he is, the thing that irks me the most about him is his head/hairline. It’s like a mini fridge with a bad wig.
Fitzgerald actually wasn’t too bad on saturday. Or rather, he was simply an idiot, not a babbling idiot, on Saturday.
Someone had a complaint that Cunningham gave too much analysis/thought for a saturday? What on earth is this supposed to mean? That you want less diligent and intelligent thoughts and replaced with more babbling nonsensical cliches?
Why don’t we just get Louie Spence on the show. We already have a bulldog, a fridge, a vampire and a drunk (Fitzy must be surely!). Lets add some razzle dazzle.
I almost miss Plunkett. Maybe Luck could wear one of her hats.
