December 5, 2016 at 22:25 #1275864Hi Space Cowboy and Drone,
‘Metachrosis’ is what I’ve found. Not that I’ve ever heard of it, mind!

Here’s a link to one definition of the word….

Ooohhh, what a wonderful wonderful place the internet is!!
December 5, 2016 at 23:44 #1275873I will be using that word as much as possible tomorrow
December 5, 2016 at 23:49 #1275874I might even use it now just for fun,
The jock trudged mud splattered and sopping wet into the weighing room, bedraggled and forlorne he sported two pale eypatches: you would not have guessed he had just won the race. As he received the congratulations and hearty slaps on the back from his good fellows the colour slowly started to creep into his paled grey features, it was if he was in a state of metachrosis.
I feel much better now.

December 6, 2016 at 10:37 #1275889Well done Jimsun
If you hadn’t supplied the dictionary link I’d have guessed you were a scholar of Ancient Greek and had concocted it

as its derivation is quite obvious:
from the Greek meta- ‘change’ and -chrosis ‘colouring’

……Nothing of the kind, Drone.

The internet is such a wonderful thing, I find. Via Google, nowadays one can find virtually any obscure word, or any word unknown to oneself but who feels certain to exist, with relative ease, simply by typing a fraction of the perceived meaning or a phrase in certain appropriate dictionary or thesaurus sites. A kind of a dictionary in reverse, if you will. Whereas in the pre-digital age, I wouldn’t even have had a clue where to start…….
December 17, 2016 at 00:49 #1277470Cuttlefish are actually my favourite creatures on the planet and have been ever since I saw a programme about them. I’d never seen anything so amazing.
December 17, 2016 at 00:56 #1277471December 19, 2016 at 12:18 #1277854That could easily be a question to come up on The Chase so will keep Metachrosis at the back of my mind along with Osmosis (something to do with Water molecules and plants). Thanks SC and Jimsun.
Had to smile as when I first saw the word I was thinking along the lines of something a brother might say to his sister after he had been out birdwatching.
‘What did you do today Johnny?’
‘I met a Crow Sis!!’
Well that’s one way to remember it.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 19, 2016 at 15:20 #1277875You planning on going on the chase, Jac…..?

December 19, 2016 at 15:51 #1277882Nice one, Triptych Jac.
As one comedian from several decades ago might have said: That’s Brill’……

And as someone on this forum has said recently, something like….’You’ve got to have something to smile at in this game’……
……and indeed on this forum too!
December 19, 2016 at 18:45 #1277889You planning on going on the chase, Jac…..?
Get yourself a photo with Bradley.I saw Bradley Walsh on Liverpool Street station when he was filming Law and Order but couldn’t stop as I was late for my train.
He was so nice and seemed to be having a lot of selfies with bystanders.
Would love to go on The Chase Nathan but too many geography and footy questions for my liking so I’ll just stick to shouting all the wrong answers at the television
