Free Eangle being laid at 3.15 on Betfair and general 2/1 shot with the bookies.
Now he might win but this is odd stuff. Australia might show up although there is talk of the QE2 or dodging soft ground, which would still leave Cirrus Des Aigles, The Grey Gatsby and plenty others.
Welds horse won a group 3 impressively having been batterd by the Derby winner last year. In my opinion your taking a chance the race will cut up badly.

October 10, 2014 at 19:55 #491920I was shocked to see him beaten by Australia. He was reported to be ill following the race ans was sidelined for a year. His first and his most recent run are his best efforts. If the report of his illness was true then he is a very very good horse. Also Dermot is bullish and that is quite unusual.
October 10, 2014 at 20:08 #491923I’ve gone in each way on Noble Mission, if the weather continues in the same vein you would guess Australia would be switched to the QE11 and The Grey Gatsby would be highly unlikely to run and even if he did run he wouldn’t go a yard on soft ground. If the weather and ground dries up I’ll count my losses and lump on Toronado in the QE11.

October 11, 2014 at 12:31 #492062Australia is out of the picture and retired. From a selfish point of view that’s a help to me.
I had a few quid on Kingston Hill at 16/1 after Roger Varian said he
might
run. Perhaps I won’t get a run and it’s been quiet since he said there was a possibility. Cirrus will be tough to crack but I think Free Eagle has plenty to prove and is no value. A bit of rain and the Hill would have a chance each-way surely.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

So was I but I think his illness turned up later.
I think the horse has amazing potential but shorter than 2/1 antepost for a group 1 is a bit mean given he has never even run in a group 2 race. Put it like this, what would Cirrus de Aigles have done to Elleval at leopardstown?? Added to that, if the rain falls, he is unknown on soft ground against one or two good horses who will relish it. He may win but id wait til the day to put money on him.SHL

If you get decent rain, i think Varian might not be able to resist a go.

October 12, 2014 at 14:33 #492162Kingston Hill a non runner with Varian stating too soon after the Arc. Surely the scheduling of this "Champion " race needs looking at given the number of defections.
October 12, 2014 at 17:46 #492170FREE EAGLE need to be a great horse to beat CDA in these conditions more rain on the way.CIRRUS DES AIGLES 9/4 for me
October 12, 2014 at 20:05 #492177You could probably start laying the grey gatsby. I cant see him going on that ground and if its genuinely soft, i suggest he will be withdrawn. Actually, ive be a bit concerned if i was Weld also. Minding a young horse with a previous injury usually doesn’t entail letting them slog around in what could yet be sticky ground.
Corinde Barande Barbe must be finding it hard to see defeat here. Arriving at ascot this time having had a better year then this time 12 months ago and almost has has a perfect prep having been quite during the mid season.
Ruler of the world ran well in this last year having not had the greatest trip around.
I hope we dont get many defections. The race needs whats left.SHL
October 12, 2014 at 20:51 #492178Oh well, that’s the chance you take. I had gotten worried that it had gone quiet regarding Kingston Hill but if he had been declared and we’d gotten some rain the 16/1 would have looked huge. He paid his way more than handsomely for me in The Leger at 10/1 Ante-Post and he’s earned his break after a terrific effort in the Arc.
I don’t really care how bullish Dermot Weld is, Free Eagle is a ridiculous price when you compare what he has done with the career of Cirrus Des Aigles.
I’ll be backing Cirrus and Gleneagles as my main bets this weekend. Singles and a double 9/4 and 7/4
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
October 13, 2014 at 09:00 #492206Yeah bad luck Steve. In hindsight, perhaps a strange decision to go for the arc. This wouldn’t have been a penalty kick or anything but at least he would finally get something like his ground.
I see Paddy Power gone from shortest price about Free Eagle to longest. 6/4 to 9/4 overnight. Wonder if they know something.

October 13, 2014 at 10:35 #492208The Grey Gatsby the latest to pull out, no really surprise there.
The one worry I have is if the day gets abandoned, those train tickets isn’t cheap.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
October 13, 2014 at 11:18 #492211Don’t worry Nath. It’s gonna be cracking flags later in the week. There will be soft in the going but won’t be a bog

The betting has flip-flopped now Harry. Free Eagle now available at 5/2 and Cirrus Des Aigles generally 6/4 and 13/8 favourite.
Noble Mission is a best priced 11/2 and Ruler Of The World 7/1
Hard to imagine anything bigger in the betting winning this.
Happy with Cirrus at 9/4, he must surely shorten as the rain falls.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
October 13, 2014 at 13:33 #492223Dont know how bad weather forecast is. If its really bad and heavy appears in the going (Ascot drains well) then Weld will surely take out Free Eagle and Cirrus will be pretty close to having a walk over. Im genuinely surprised that people rushed into a bet on Welds horse at 6/4 with that weather forecast. When Kingston Hill was withdrawn, people got a rush of blood to the head.
I have a dilemma now having laid him for the race.

October 13, 2014 at 13:36 #492225It wont be a walk over with Noble Mission in the field, especially if given a soft lead and too much rope to reel in.
