Can’t think who won the Champion Hurdle that year; Epatante? Both BDD and Honeysuckle would have been formidable opponents; more evidence how the extra races have diminished the formerly white-hot competition
October 21, 2022 at 16:27 #1619430It was Epatante. Subsequently defeated in two Champion Hurdles by Honeysuckle.
Honeysuckle’s connections went for the Mares Hurdle as an easier option but it was probably a harder race!
October 21, 2022 at 16:33 #1619433The 7lb gender allowance is a massive weapon – it’s 4lb more than it should be.
Epatante and then more specifically Honeysuckle used it to full effect to dominate a weak era for 2m hurdlers.
But this Constitution Hill is a throwback to the golden era of hurdling – he’s just got to turn up at Cheltenham next March to win it and he’s with the right bloke to ensure that happens.
Rumour had it he’s moved into Nicky Henderson’s house with him and gets a menu to choose from for his feed!

October 23, 2022 at 10:23 #1619703Looks a fast horse but wasn’t even as good as vauban so it’s hard to see him mixing it with constitution hill and honeysuckle
The problem 5yos have is they generally need to improve 15-20lb from their juvenile hurdle campaign to be competitive in open company
Which happens every now and then but very rarely
Even vauban is only 155 so he needs to improve 15lbs to get to 170 and be competitive
October 23, 2022 at 10:30 #1619704I like Pied Piper
He travels so smoothly, so in one way a fast pace race plays into his hands on that front but against that is what does he find against better horses when push comes to shove?
Vauban was beat by Pied Piper but seemed to improve for that race and reversed the result, in a head to head Vauban would be the pickGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
October 23, 2022 at 10:40 #1619711He does need to improve no doubt about it but I do like him , if Honeysuckle and CH go hard at it then if this lad can stay in the vicinity he may well nab a place , Vauban is more than half the price , in my eyes 1 race each head to head I’ve got to play the value

October 23, 2022 at 11:30 #1619715I need to see him win a Grade 1 again before waxing about multiple Champion Hurdles because horses often take time to recover from races and seasons such as those had by Constitution Hill – he may look fine in light training but until the press the button again which Henderson referred to about this horse, you just don’t know.
Denman’s Gold Cup obviously took it’s toll.
Master Minded had that incredible season including the stunning Champion Chase victory but they possibly went one race too far with Punchestown because he was nothing like the same horse the following season
Sprinter Sacre won five Grade 1s in five months but possibly Punchestown was once again a race too farI’m glad CH didn’t race again after Cheltenham last season – want to see that again and again
October 23, 2022 at 12:24 #1619725Think anyone would be fairly mad to think Pied Piper can beat Vauban, in their first match Vauban got no run and was clearly green too, Cheltenham a much better representation of what happens when they have a clean race and even then Vauban made a mess of the last but still showed an impressive turn of foot to run away from them. Maybe I’m seeing it with rose tinted glasses as I was on Vauabn ante post but even I was surprised at how easily he won the Triumph. Willie had planned a flat campaign with him over the summer but those ideas were scrapped so they must be targeting him at this race, it’s just a shame for them that they’re going to come up against Jesus himself.
October 23, 2022 at 17:14 #1619785You may well be right but at double the odds I’m happy to take some 20s

October 23, 2022 at 18:06 #1619790That’s fair mate, value is everything after all!
October 25, 2022 at 18:15 #1620131Pied Piper will not finish within 10 lengths of Constitution Hill, assuming nothing goes wrong with Henderson’s charge.
October 26, 2022 at 05:18 #1620192I don’t reckon anything bar Honeysuckle will but it’s a long time to March ….let me throw this one out there , CH destroys everything in his path …does Honeysuckle def come here or would they go back to the mares race …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 26, 2022 at 05:23 #1620194HDLG- they’ve said that it’s her last season racing, so I reckon they’ll go for the Champion no matter what Constitution Hill does.
Unlike a stallion prospect, there’s no real value in retiring unbeaten for a nine year old mare.
October 26, 2022 at 05:27 #1620196I reckon she,ll will go CH but if she has a iffy season or CH looks unbeatable ……stranger things have happened
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 26, 2022 at 11:55 #1620297If Constitution Hill does what some of us believe he can, I would not be surprised to see Honeysuckle line up in the Mares Hurdle. I think her connections do like her being unbeaten.
7/1 is available and it may be worth a small antepost bet. She will not be that price if she lines up in it.
November 20, 2022 at 14:16 #1623968State Man did the job but I’m not sure he,s the real deal , just not convinced with his hurdling is slick enough , see the bookies have nipped him in a couple of points …. bit cheeky
