State Man out for the season.
November 12, 2025 at 13:57 #1744325I was going to bet Irancy for this the other day, and thought I’d miss the 33’s when State Man. Surprised B365 are holding it, so had a go just now
Edit – Sunday November 23rd
Cashed Out, just over half stake back
November 12, 2025 at 15:23 #1744326Presumably East India Dock being 209-1 on the machine tells a story?
Although if he hasn’t been ruled out of continuing hurdling it might be worth a pokeNovember 12, 2025 at 15:58 #1744327State Man news is sad as you could rely on him year in year out to turn up and run.
Being 8 (rising 9) this season and with a tendon issue, you have to be worried that when he does return at 9 (10 come the Festival) that he won’t be the same horse he was as most that are off with tendon issues (even if a minor one) more often return a shell of the horse they were beforehand.
Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen – but it is even more of a reason to rue that final flight fall last year as this season could well have been his last real chance to win the race as you have to go way back to one of the all time greats (Sea Pigeon in 1980) to find the last 10 yr old to win the race.
Incidentally, in Champion Hurdle history (race first run in 1927) he is one of only two 10 yr olds (triple champion Hatton’s Grace being the other) to have ever won the race at that advanced age…..oddly enough they are also the only 11 yr olds (joint oldest) to win the race too!
November 12, 2025 at 19:55 #1744334Is Lossiemouth going to be the CH horse now , if the 2 blow out in Fighting fifth then surely it’s her
November 13, 2025 at 14:59 #1744350She could end up there by default but I think she is better over further like The New Lion
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
November 13, 2025 at 15:11 #1744351Still not ruling out Constitution Hill. I feel that the force is still strong within him.
November 17, 2025 at 10:15 #1744913There was a suggestion on last week’s “Road To Cheltenham” that Sir Gino could end up running here, now that State Man is out.
Is it such a crazy idea? If he goes to the Champion Chase, it will be after two or three Chase starts at the most. Would this race be a better option instead?
He is still young, so there is plenty of time to go chasing. Although I have backed him for the Champion Chase, so from a punting point of view I hope he doesn’t!
November 17, 2025 at 11:19 #1744920Only way I see Sir Gino running here is if Anzadam has a set back ( which is possible, given Mullins comments about training issues )
At which point Nicky will declare that sending Sir Gino to the CC with only one prep run doesn’t make senseNovember 17, 2025 at 11:33 #1744921“Is it such a crazy idea?”
Nope, I mentioned it myself in the Tingle Creek thread.
November 17, 2025 at 11:36 #1744922“Only way I see Sir Gino running here is if Anzadam has a set back”
Are we sure Anz is champion hurdle winning standard?
November 17, 2025 at 23:43 #1744997Are We sure Sir Gino is Champion Chase or hurdle material … Is beating Ballyburn by 7 lengths over 2 miles strong form ….nope I could outrun him over 2m , if you look at the form Sir Gino hasn’t really beaten anything yet , he may well end up being a very good horse but it’s still to be seen and proven
November 18, 2025 at 09:46 #1745005I mentioned Sir Gino for CH from the start. I just cant see him going to the CC with a maximum of 3 chase starts under his belt (3 assumes that Henderson manages to run him twice between 27/12/25 + 11/03/2026 which is hardly a given).
The CH could absolutely fall apart if the New Lion turns out to be not as good as hoped/expected.
Sir Gino’s bare form is there to be cribbed at, but he does look very special. Even if you just account for the way Rubaud couldn’t go with him from the get go at Kempton- that’s a solid G2 2m hurdler/chaser who came into the race with a huge fitness and experience edge. Listen to Harry Cobden talk about Sir Gino’s performance that day.
I did think the Newcastle race was very good at the time based on the fact I really fancied Mystical Power as a CH horse, but it turns out the 2024 supreme was absolute garbage.
November 21, 2025 at 13:37 #1745154Willie seems less than sure of his possible reps here and I am tempted to have £1 on Ballyburn at 33s despite the Stayers being his stated aim.
November 21, 2025 at 14:04 #1745156Got 70 on Betfair for £2.
November 21, 2025 at 14:59 #1745158Assuming The New Lion doesn’t blow CH away in the Fighting Fifth, then there isn’t anything resembling a certainty in this. I can more easily envisage Henderson seeing this as easier than the Arkle and moving Lulamba here than simply switching Jonbon to the Ryanair and leaving Sir Gino in the CC.
As usual the machine doesn’t agree with me but 139-1 for Lulamba proved irresistible. As for CH blowing TNL away at Newcastle, I’d love to see it but don’t feel the need to put any money down…
November 21, 2025 at 17:31 #1745170The hill isn’t likely to blow anyone away , Jesus if he wins they should be delighted however I just don’t see it , even if can get around then he’s very likely to get in a fight and sorry I just don’t think that’s his game , I can him traveling well maybe even better the lion however lion is aptly named he fought at Cheltenham and won , let’s be brutal one here is likely on the way down the other on the way up
