What a race we could have next year!
Our Connor, The Fly, Rock On Ruby, My Tent or Yours perhaps even the New One

our conor looks like an absolute machine. the one to beat
March 15, 2013 at 14:05 #432950I wouldn’t write Grandouet off yet, although it would be nice if he had a clear season and decent ground. Agree about Our Connor, pleased for Dessie.

I’m a big Grandouet fan but he seems so fragile and has his quirks. It’s the New One for me!!
March 15, 2013 at 22:05 #433086Looking very competitive very good novices this year. Not yet started my 2014 AP bets
so havent picked yet.May 25, 2013 at 22:22 #440767Don’t forget Jezki either
August 4, 2013 at 14:02 #447642Followed Grandouet off a cliff for two years, would be foolish to stop now.
August 16, 2013 at 21:46 #448581Are we forgetting Annie power?!
Or is she going chasing?I think grandouet will go chasing this season, it’s very unfortunate he is so delicate/ fragile!!
I think the fly could struggle to cope with "our Connor" and "the new one".

Hope you haven’t done too much ante post for the champion hurdle as it seems he’s definitely going chasing. Might be worth clawing some back on the Arkle….just took 10/1. If he can jump a fence this could be a great price come March.
October 20, 2013 at 16:27 #455623I backed Our Conor straight after the Triumph. He was fantastically impressive but the subsequent tie up with Danny Mullins was an absolute disaster for the horse and backers alike. You may as well have added a 14lb penalty. He can’t win.
Consequently, have backed The New One after today’s Kempton win.
October 20, 2013 at 17:12 #455624I hope that they stick with Rock on Ruby over 2 miles as he seems to need a few races to be seen at his best. If they do choose to go down the Champion Hurdle route i think that come March you will see a different horse from today. Always felt that for a horse of his age they needed to get at least another run into him in his prep last year. Whether he would have won last year even with another prep im not sure but i think it would have helped.
The new one today confirmed that he is a serious champion hurdle horse and it will be fantastic to see him run this season, fingers crossed he gets to the big one in one piece.
October 20, 2013 at 17:31 #455625I think The New One’s potent turn of foot and slicker hurdling (touch wood) will see him unbeaten this season.

Agree with you about the jockey. Poor record and not someone you’d want on your star horse.

Annie power at 20/1 is the only value I see at the moment. She should go this route as quevega is staying on course for the mares hurdle again. She also destroyed Ron cossock and defy logic last year and both now look quite smart. She could really be a superstar
November 15, 2013 at 21:02 #458455Only bet I’ve had and not likely to have another one till the Festival is Jezki at 10/1. Not much of a price but he ran a good race in the Supreme
which was a better race than the Champion. Annie Power looks awesome but I’d like to know if she was definately going for the Ch H.

I’m struggling to see The New One get beat with that eye-catching turn of foot he possesses. Surely the best way for his rivals to turn him over is to dash for home a few furlongs out and either catch him off guard or tire him out before the final furlong. This could then play into the hands of a horse like My Tent or Yours who although is incredibly fast himself could probably handle this sort of race better (as we saw when he JUST failed in the Supreme).
Then again, perhaps a sudden burst for home some way out will give TNO a perfect tow into the finish as he seemed to keep up with the others in the Neptune alright before his acceleration left the others for dead!
The way Sam said go on this boy at Kempton last time out was stunning, the only thing better was the way TNO responded and shot off like a bullet.
November 26, 2013 at 13:09 #459854What did we make of
Annie Power
‘s win at the weekend?
A very satisfactory performance I thought, beating Zarkandar over 2m 3f is no mean feat. It was the first time she’s come off the bridle and it’s rare (has it ever happened) that Zarkandar travels better than a rival and doesn’t beat them. I’d say she’ll learn an awful lot from that an I’m very happy to have her on my side in the Champion Hurdle. It’s easy to forget that Zarkandar was only beaten once last season.
I’ve spent some time looking at the Champion Hurdle over the past two days an I have to say nothing stands out as a great price. You could make a case for all the market principles from The New One to Annie Power, and I couldn’t rule any of them out.
Our Conor
looked exceptional last season but he’s had little problems by the sounds of things and I’m afraid that the change in jockey will not help his biggest asset which is his jumping. I’d like to see how he gets on at Christmas before reassessing his chances.
I’d like to see
My Tent Or Yours
over a fence. He looks a scopey animal who should have no problem jumping the bigger obstacles. That said, he’s not half bad at hurdling either. He was beaten by a tougher horse in the Supreme, he was quite keen that day in fairness but he’ll need to settle better to win a Champion Hurdle. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s beaten on Saturday, in which case it could be the time to back him at inflated odds.
The New One
looks very reliable and is the one I’d say is most likely to place at least. He travels well, has a potent turn of foot and stays two and a half miles. He was beaten by Zarkandar at Aintree but I feel it’s difficult for novices racing against experienced animals for the first time (a reason I was impressed with Annie Power) and wouldn’t hold that against him.
Jezki
has been very impressive in Ireland but missed the last in the Supreme Novices and in any case I don’t think he’d have won. It’s also possible the lack of a prep race was against him as Champagne Fever and My Tent Or Yours had had recent runs. It doesn’t say much that they ran scared of the Fly in the Morgiana – if you can’t beat Hurricane Fly first time up you’re probably not going to beat him, not in Ireland at any rate. I couldn’t rule him out obviously but as with Our Conor Christmas should reveal plenty about his chances.
Which brings me to the Champ,
Hurricane Fly
. He’s won two Champion Hurdles already and placed in another, while injury prevented him from running in another and also a Supreme Novices Hurdle. Yet for my money he’s never produced his best at Cheltenham. I don’t know if it’s the track that doesn’t suit or the travelling but while he’s been imperious in Ireland he doesn’t travel well in his races over there. Some have said that the pace of Champion Hurdle gets him out of his comfort zone, but I can’t have that. He’s never been passed once he’s hit the front and these tigerish battling qualities came to the fore last year. This may well be a better renewal but who’s to say he can’t pull it out of the fire again? Not me anyway, but I’m more interested in seeing what price he’ll be to beat Our Conor and Jezki at Christmas.
Of the outsiders Un De Sceaux and to a an extent Chatterbox (if you can get Venture To Cognac prices ) make some appeal, but I haven’t heard anything regarding Un De Sceaux’s targets as of yet.
All in all I’m very happy to be on Annie Power ante post and even at 12/1 now I think she’s too big a price. The dilemma for connections now is where to send her next? The Ryanair Hurdle at Christmas would be ideal but I doubt they’ll want to clash with Hurricane Fly that early in the season. Could she go for the Christmas Hurdle?
