I have a lot of people betting on Hurricane Fly on this one. Looking forward for this.

February 21, 2012 at 20:00 #392877The more cynical people on this planet might say that the cough has given Mr Nicholls a ready made excuse if his horses under-perform next month. As it was stated on here that he would not have run Zarkandar had he known he was ailing, how can he know whether any other horse has been affected until they step foot on the racecourse.
February 21, 2012 at 20:16 #392882‘Grandouet to undergo surgery tonight on near hind reports Nicky Henderson. Will know more tomorrow about prospects of making Champion hurdle’
He is brilliant.
" He’s on antibiotics, leg is still a problem, should go swimming later in the week, we’re hopeful "
then there’s a setback
" He needs surgery "
At least he’s keeping people informed which is what people are always banging on about. Mullins wouldn’t say a word
Media scaremongering again…If you call making a hole the size of a straw surgery then I suppose it’s surgery. Saline mixture clean out the **** pop a few antibiotics in his gob to prevent further infection. Unless the Xrays show extensive damage a tight bandage and by next Tuesday he’ll be fine. Very little response from the majors and Betfair is for pennies….
Sad news though. One day we’ll have a Champion Hurdle when all the main contenders make it.
We lost Hurricane Fly when Binny won, Binny when Hurricane Fly won and this time we have lost Spirit Son and possibly Grandouet.
What is it a bout Champion Hurdle contenders that makes them so fragile in March

February 22, 2012 at 01:07 #392938Well well Nicky. Cheers for crashing my Cheltenham dreams. By all accounts, don’t trust him to get him returned.

It’s boiling up nicely isn’t!? Loving your confidence Joe but The Fly will need to fall for your guy to have a chance!
February 22, 2012 at 14:17 #393012Henderson said: "He had a bit of surgery last night to flush an infected hind fetlock joint. It’s a peculiar one, it’s not everyday stuff, there’s no wound or anything.
"We had to flush out a bit of infection inside the joint, rather than outside it, and that all went well. As a consequence he was much more comfortable this morning. He’s walking sound on it.
"We can’t do anything more today. At this stage he hasn’t missed anything significant because on Friday when he was first lame he had a day off and then Saturday and he did actually have a couple of days swimming.
"Unfortunately it reacted yesterday. We’ll just have to monitor it and see how we get on. We have to give it every chance and we will keep everybody absolutely posted on what we are doing.
"We have relieved the pressure on it and, if that holds, he was very fit last Thursday and at the moment we are not missing anything.
"It will become a concern, obviously, and you can only have so many days off at this stage, but as long as he is working by this weekend we are still in action and we’ve still got a chance.
"He’s not as sore as he was, and as long as the infection can be controlled, we’ve still got a realistic chance."
To be fair to NJH, a lot of information there and he’s kept to his word. For now. Sounds quite bullish and I reckon he’ll be running.

He may be running, but he won’t be winning
COME ON THE FLY !!
February 22, 2012 at 23:46 #393098Hmmm!! He may not win but he’ll sure as hell scare the life out of you Hurricane Fly boys before he goes down, if of course he does go down

The only scare Grandouet will give the Fly followers is by falling in front of him, which is quite a possibility
February 23, 2012 at 09:25 #393125I’m wondering if history will repeat itself and Grandouet hoses up in the champion, after the racing world was told it has an injury and could be doubtful for the race. Binocular was all but ruled out of the race, and two weeks later hoses up in a pretty good time. Is it one of the Henderson, will he won’t he scenarios again, and if it does turn up, will in no doubt be in peak condition, forget about any injury? Or am I just being cynical?
February 23, 2012 at 13:12 #393177VERY reliable Twitter source says more chance of Lord Lucan turning up than Grandouet.
Also says Lord Lucan has more chance of running in the Supreme than Simonsig.
February 23, 2012 at 13:52 #393184And there we have it, 40 minutes later and the RP tweets this;
‘Grandouet to miss Champion Hurdle, says Nicky Henderson. More soon on http://racingpost.com’
February 23, 2012 at 14:08 #393189NJH says Grandouet not a 2 1/2 miler so Aintree doubtful as well.
February 23, 2012 at 14:12 #393190Shame, he was one of my lays of the meeting.
February 23, 2012 at 14:13 #393191Decent horse though. Should come back with more of a chance next year though. Champion hurdle cutting up even more and that has to please Zarks and your small field bet.
