Willie Who?
Whovan?
Shockarooni!!
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 15, 2017 at 15:40 #1292340Blimey. Douvan just never jumped with any fluency. There must be something wrong.
I was willing Special Tiara on up the run in. He deserved it.
It seems you want to be on a front runner today.

March 15, 2017 at 15:46 #1292342For once something got Douvan out of his comfort zone. He’s controlled pretty much all of his races. Today Special Tiara got him out of his comfort zone and Douvan fell apart.
I’m not shocked he got beat. Surprised yes, he was 1/4?? after all but I’m not completely shocked.
March 15, 2017 at 15:51 #1292343Horse aren’t machines; obviously something wrong, but shows danger of such short odds. If you ever stand close to a fence and watch horses jumping, you’d almost never bet on a jumps race again.
March 15, 2017 at 16:06 #1292346He ran and jumped like he had the weight of my money on his shoulders

March 15, 2017 at 16:08 #1292347Very disappointing from Douvan. Mullins is clearly struggling so far this festival. Douvan didn’t look anywhere near his best and it seems the whole stable isn’t firing…
March 15, 2017 at 18:53 #1292405Douvan found to be lame in post-race examination apparently. The run was too bad to be true. Hopefully he’ll be back
March 15, 2017 at 19:04 #1292412Post-race examination found Douvan to be lame behind following his defeat in the Champion Chase.
Trainer Willie Mullins said: “He is quite sore and we’ll get an x-ray and maybe an MRI scan done in the next couple of days”March 15, 2017 at 19:12 #1292418For Mullins to pro-claim the horse possibly the best he has ever trained with the battalion he has had over the years, you’d have to question his genius it that were his true running.
Hopefully it’s nothing major and the horse can return.Blackbeard to conquer the World
March 15, 2017 at 19:24 #1292426I’m only 85% sold on Douvan as the 1/4 banker the market and the hype are selling us, so I’ll probably play this race each-way rather than Without Douvan. I think the ‘win’ half could be alive.
That leaves me with Special Tiara, who has never run a bad race in his optimum conditions. He’ll get his perfect ground here and should run into the frame with just a repeat of last year’s effort for a heroic third. Although I dislike the firm from a ethical POV, 32Red are a standout 20/1 1/4 odds, so I’ll try to punish them with Henry de Bromhead’s cult hero.
Can I get an “ei ei!”
Brilliant to see Special Tiara land the big one. Indirectly hurting Tony Calvin is always a plus too.
March 15, 2017 at 19:27 #1292431Great shout LS

March 15, 2017 at 22:53 #1292489Although I had my doubts about Douvan pre-race, I’m not going to gloat as if he was ironed-out here. He jumped badly throughout and clearly failed to run to form.
With the favourite underperforming, it wasn’t a vintage renewal. Special Tiara was entitled to win if able to replicate last year’s excellent third with no Sprinter Sacre or Un De Sceaux to worry about. Getting his perfect conditions and a superb ride from Fehily, he seized what will probably be his last realistic chance at the age of ten.
Fox Norton ran as predicted, just needing a stronger test. He’ll go to the Ryanair with fair each-way claims next year. Sir Valentino ran the race of his life but will continue to feed on scraps at this level. God’s Own would have finished closer without his mistake at the second last, but doesn’t really act at this track anyway. Aintree will be his big day again no doubt.
It was good to see a bit more life from Traffic Fluide in behind. This season has been a bit of a rush job for him but hopefully he’ll build on it with a clear run at things next term.
March 17, 2017 at 14:34 #1293070Just perhaps a novelty question, but how do you think L’ami Serge would have faired if he ran in this year’s Champion Chase rather than the County in which he’s just put in a huge effort?
