Ermyn Lodge and Cosimo De Medici for me, with a decent E/W (1st 5) on Gifted Leader at 50s.
Best of luck to all.
October 7, 2011 at 17:04 #373293I like Bernie the Bolt, but his chance does require a leap of faith. He was ante post favorite for this last year before injury.
The obvious problem is that he hasn’t been seen this year. Equally, this is presumably the reason he is still in training and the Balding clan do have a good record in the race – even if Andrew is yet to win it. I’ll have a small dabble at 25-1.
Weird! I was just reading your post when Graham Cunningham tipped Berie The Bolt on the radio.
Omen? I’ll have my 10 p ew on him instaed of Nicky’s horse
October 7, 2011 at 17:08 #373294It has gotta be Sentry Duty for me. Backed it last year when given a pathetic ride by Peslier.
From stall 1 with Johnny Murtagh booked that will do for me.
Good luck all!
Martin
October 7, 2011 at 18:19 #373301Agree with Martin that Sentry Duty is most likely winner. Each way I like Colour Vision ( good draw, WFA favours 3yo over a trip at this time of year) and of those with a ""bad draw (remember the Cambridgeshire) Ashbrittle whose odds are just too big.
October 7, 2011 at 18:23 #373304Gifted Leader; ‘a leggy sort from a high class Flat bred family’. Interesting one, that. It gets more complicated by the minute. And Ashbrittles got the visor on again for this race.
October 7, 2011 at 19:36 #373311Just looking at the result from last year. 5 of the first 7 had the comments held up, behind or in rear. Yet the draw is a powerful trend, too powerful to be put down as a coincidence.
This is probably me being pig headed but I am going to still back Rainforest Magic despite his poor draw. I just think he may have enough in hand to overcome his draw.
His price is drifting now, he’s 18s with Corals, so it’s just as well I didn’t back him ante post. I reckon I might get 20s tomorrow.
October 7, 2011 at 20:36 #373317Agree with you about that. Annoyingly the oddschecker site keeps crashing on my computer so I’m having difficulty keeping track of what’s happening price wise. There’s no stand out horse with a good draw this year that wouldn’t make you think a very good horse with a bad draw couldn’t overcome it and win. The first two that I really fancied were Ermyn Lodge and Phoenix Flight, so it’ll be interesting to see what affect [effect?] the draw has on them. Just wish I could’ve got to a Betfreds to get first 5 because there are some huge prices that could get placed. It’ll be oh so obvious tomorrow, won’t it! Always go with your first fancy imo because it’s usually the right one. Interesting what Nicky Henderson said about how stamina sapping the race is and how the Ascot race is a good pointer to stamina. Viewed, Ermyn Lodge, Phoenix Flight and La Estrella were fighting that one out; the other key race featured Keys, Colour Vision and L Frank Baum. Of those Ermyn Lodge has the best draw. Does your head in! Ladbrokes have just gone first 5 places; does that mean my ante post bets with them are first 5 or is it just from today?
October 7, 2011 at 21:28 #373324Your ante post bet won’t be effected by the change to 5 places moe. Only NRNB bets.
October 7, 2011 at 22:47 #373334Backed Keys ante post at 12s, also have Veiled, Kazbow and Beyond on the shortlist, may do small cfc and win singles on the machines.
October 7, 2011 at 22:57 #373339Botti’s Regal Park looks very interesting. Darrel Holland’s on board.
October 8, 2011 at 06:54 #373366Be careful when researching previous runnings of this race on the Racing Post website. They have changed the draw details to match the new draw set up. For instance; Miss Fara won from stall 36 of 36, RP now have her winning from 1. Landing Light won from stall 36 of 36, RP now have him winning from 1.
October 8, 2011 at 07:59 #373371Good luck to Sentry Duty but he hasn’t won a race for 3 years. BEYOND looks to me a fair bet.
October 8, 2011 at 13:24 #373430I’m joining the group backing Sentry Duty
October 8, 2011 at 14:44 #373462Too many options here really, but Never Can Tell at 33’s is a complete mystery, he’s had a good season, and Dettor is up.
Maybe not that simple, but he’s my shout Max places EW.October 8, 2011 at 15:24 #373476Masterly ride by Frankie there.
My lad gave me a good run for my money and at one stage I was gettting excited…close but no cigar, particularly as I backed him with a bookie only paying first 4.
October 8, 2011 at 15:41 #373481It was that simple VtC, I wish I had read your post before the race. Ermyn Lodge did well for a front runner. Given that Phoenix Flight and Ermyn Lodge were so close at Ascot you’d have to say the draw did make a difference. Winner did it well; no mention from anyone anywhere other than the owner who did say she was the forgotten horse. Carried a penalty and had a bad draw but still won. That’s racing.
