1.5 pt win Benbaun 2.40 Curragh 9/4 guaranteed.
Sems a very fair price to me to repeat what this horse has done here many times- Myboycharlie has it to prove at the minimum in his second season.

It was always my intention that this thread would run for a year and now it has.
It has been enjoyable, scary, rewarding, good for discipline and untimately very worthwhile.
Thanks to everyone who offered kind comments during the year, thanks to my wife for putting up with me spending far too much time studying form and thanks to all who read the thread- 24,400 odd hits in the 12 months.
    The complete results are below.
I fared better than the thread myself, as many outsiders backed on Betfair in races where I backed 3 or 4 horses (notably Silver Jaro at 110 in the County) understandably didn’t make it on here- in fact this has been my best 12 months ever, due in some part to the discipline of justifying my bets on here. As far as I know noone else has demonstrated a profit over a year on TRF before- if anyone can I pledge to buy them a large drink at any major Festival, because it’s not easy!

Well done denis, I’ll agree 100% that it is far from easy, so credit where it’s more than due. Be sure and keep it up.

Well done Denis – very good thread – have been following since the turn of the year. You really should give it another year – just to prove the first wasn’t a fluke!

Only my second departure from racing on this thread (other was a winning rugby recommendation) and won’t be counting this in my end of month/year tallies, but I’ve tonight had the equivalent of 15 points on Barack Obama to be the next US president at 8/11. I was in the US for the past 3 weeks and am convinced he can’t lose to John McCain, the main reason being that Senator McCain is hopelessly wedded to continuing an increasingly unpopular war. Add that to the "kick the bum out" factor working against the Republicans in a tanking economy and the charisma of the candidate and you’ve got a certainty.

    Won, +11 pts.

    Hi carvillshill

I was just wondering if you are finding betting/studying/etc any easier , harder, or much the same since you became a father.

It’s all about time management now!
At the mo I only cover the handicaps in the Irish cards in a routine midweek, hence usually only 2 races. I still look at ante-post for the weekend ahead and try to see all the significant UK action with Cheltenham implications. We do the Scoop 6 as a syndicate about 10 times a year. I have a very understanding wife but when number 2 arrives in June it may get a little more difficult….

My Irish handicap system involves backing 2-4 horses on BF usually at 14-1 or greater which I reckon are overpriced. It has longish losing runs but if you hit 2 or 3 together it’s party time!
