It seems to me that Christmas has become that time of year that starts when the barbeques are taken off the supermarket shelves in September and finishes on December 27th when everything that was full price 3 days before is then half price so that there will be room on the shelves around 1st January for Easter Eggs.[/quote

Why do supermarkets do this? Supply and demand…If there was no demand, no need to supply. Who the hell buys Easter eggs so early etc? Clearly people do. Not bloody me!

Now that the Sky music channels are playing all the greatest Christmas hits, is there a worse example of miming than Roy Wood on Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day?
I love the tune but the 1973 video of Wood’s appalling miming is absolutely terrible. He doesn’t even make the semblance of an effort to look as though he’s actually singing.
And he looks such a misery too…..
Still like seeing Mud (Lonely This Christmas) and Slade (Merry Christmas Everybody).

EmmyK I don’t think this lot knows the meaning of Christmas.

Peace on earth and good will to all men.

The date which has been assigned to the birth of Jesus Christ.

The closest this lot will get is the Christmas hurdle.

Why is Christmas about "peace on earth and good will to all men"?

Is it ok NOT to be "peace"ful and NOT be "good" to everyone at any other time of year?

Should we not spread hapiness 12 months a year?

It should not matter what time of year it is, we should all "do unto others….".

What is the point of treating people better this time of year, if we are not going to care other times?

So what exactly is the "meaning of Christmas"?

You’re perfectly right to say that the message of Christmas "Peace on earth, and good will to all men!" is not just a christmas message, but a message we should observe for every day.

Paul, I don’t know why you’re so negative. Has somebody wrong you because you’re attitude stinks.

Paul, I don’t know why you’re so negative.

I do apologise, I thought I had explained why I am negative about Christmas.

However in the spirit of the season and reflecting my delight the whole thing will be over in 63 minutes, I am more than happy to elucidate further on any particular areas you are having trouble comprehending.

Has somebody wrong you because you’re attitude stinks.

I am not so shallow, thin skinned or easily swayed that my views are altered by somebody wrong(sic) me.

If people do wrong me I either a) ignore them or b) make them regret the day they ever crossed me, depending on the extent of the wrong. (I’m quite a laid sort of chap so 95% of the time it is the former)

At least I am able make my point without making personal attacks on individuals.

From you’re past posts on this topic let me guess. You’re a white collar worker who thinks the worlds against him.

    Quite frankly I don’t give a s**t.

Last year was a bad one for me personally with my father dieing, he died in early feb. This year I want a happy one for his sake, also for his sake I donate blood for the first time, something I should have done earlier in my life.

    Anyway seasons greetings.

"White collar worker" now there’s a nice antiquated expression from the sixties, you’ll be going on about the poor oppressed "working classes" (whatever they may be) next

The second half of your guess could not be wider of the mark. Only the paranoid would recognise the concept of the world being against them. I tend to pay more attention to feedback from friends and family rather than "the world" as a whole.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your father (and no I’m not being ironic, lest you should think that the case).

Although I don’t know the circumstances of your loss, and every one is different, having lost my father 13 months ago I know how it can knock you for six.

    Anyway seasons greetings.

and to you also and I hope 2012 is a happier year for you.

    Paul has a point.

Set your minds back to a time 2000 years ago, with morals of the time.

Now write a story about the birth of a son of God which has:

    A hard luck story:
May be no place to sleep.

    Something to interest the poor:
Have poor people in it, may be a carpenter and shepherds.

    But don’t alienate the rich:
    Some "wise men" maybe.

    Something to interest the children:
Set the scene with animals. Sheep, donkey, in a stable etc.

Has to be pure as pure can be:
    A virgin mother.

Hang on, can’t have a birth outside marriage:
    A virgin who is married.

An evil character, a bad man who can represent your chosen people’s enemy:
Maybe a king who wants to kill the baby and all other children.

    Fairy stories.

    Value Is Everything
