Is it just me or has the race really cut up I didn’t expect to see 3 year olds rated in the 80’s make it and thats reflected in the tiny field for the Silver Cambridgeshire.
Struggling to see why Korcho is 40 & 50’s in places on his run in the 3YO July Course handicap earlier in the season and yet Good Birthday and Majestic Dawn from the same race who I do like are priced much much shorter. Nicola Currie is an underated jockey imo and Hughie Morrison an excellent trainer who obviously has a bigger fancy in Le Don De Vie but a lively one here too.
Little Jo Jo is a fascinating one for Brian Ellison who should probably have won the Silver version last year and Ellison is something of a target race trainer notably winning the Greatwood with Neitzche last year but off the track for a year doesn’t smack me as a plot, especially as he said the horse looked fantastic and no mention of any issues in his Sporting Life stable tour back in May, presumably somethings gone amiss along the way but I can’t find out what anywhere.
Just Korcho for me for now.
September 27, 2019 at 21:35 #1463171I’m very hopeful Lord North, and at that price I suppose I would be really happy with a place.
It’s The Cambridgeshire, so I have to have another. I will go with Al Jellaby at 66-1 ew to 8 places.
September 27, 2019 at 22:53 #1463177Good Birthday for me will love the ground and each way one of my favourite horses Afaak son of Ghanaati, always gives a good account of himself in these big handicaps and ground will suit him also
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 27, 2019 at 23:21 #1463182Solid selection is La Don De Vie who is lightly raced abd progressive, the sort I have an eye on for this race.
To make up three against the field I go for Korcho whose last run was better than bare form and has course form. Good Birthday is steadily progressive on speed figures by my reckoning and suited by any rain.September 28, 2019 at 00:02 #1463189Overall looks a bang average race to my eyes. Le Don De Vie was bought for £460,000 earlier this year and this would go a little way to paying that back. I like the way he travels and this race should be right up his street. I’d like to fancy something double or triple the price of him but I just don’t. Forecast suggests they’ll avoid any serious rain.
September 28, 2019 at 11:45 #1463251Star of Bengal isn’t running, so I’m pleased that I waited. I also made the right decision to wait with Dubai Horizon + I can now take 33-1 up to 8 places ew
I have to have another with it being The Cambridgeshire. Something of a boring selection but it has to be Lord North at 11-2. I have looked at his last run + it was very encouraging. I have thrown a few pounds more than I usually would.
September 28, 2019 at 11:54 #1463253Even an old jumps man has been unable to resist the lure of trying to back the Cambridgeshire winner. I’ve looked at course winners, allied to Topspeed ratings and the best value imo lies in Music Seeker who can be backed now on the exchanges at around 270.
Music Seeker has been busy this season (won twice) and this has obviously not been his target (he had a Haydock entry today). But the Cambridgeshire can throw up the occasional big priced winner – Dolphin Vista, Prince of Johanne, Spanish Don – and this one is worth a couple of quid. On his only run over the Rowley Mile (May 2017) he sprang a surprise at 14/1 clocking a Racing Post Rating within 4lbs of his best.
One with an obviously stronger chance but at just a measly 46 on the exchange is Little Jo. This is his seasonal debut, but he was 3rd in last season’s Silver Cambridgehsire and won at the track in his last run, clocking his best Racing Post Rating. He was notably progressive last season, starting on an official mark of 53 and ending on 83. He is normally claimer ridden and Kieran Schofield takes 5lbs off today.
My final saver is on Beringer whose Rowley Mile record is a win and a 2nd (he’s also won on the July course). Reportedly returned jarred up from York last time, his only disappointing run this season. He is ridden by an amateur today (quite unusual in a major Flat handicap?) and the burning question for me is why this jockey’s parents, Mister and Mrs Hammer Hansen, didn’t leave the e off his first name – Thore.
September 28, 2019 at 13:02 #1463261I’m on Alternative Fact here, strikes me as a horse which will suit this unusual trip of 9 furlongs and receives plenty of weight. Form links in with a couple here and has shaped with plenty of promise in the past. 66/1 is around which would be a fair price.
Haven’t looked at the race in tremendous detail but a couple of others appeal at the prices. Nicholas T ran a monster race in the Shergar Cup but could struggle to make up the same ground on this course. Good Birthday is a horse I’ve been following all season (even, somewhat foolishly, putting him in Gingertipster’s 10 to follow competition). Doubt there’s much juice in the price today having been fortunate last time at Beverley. Fifth Position would, therefore, be my preferred option of those at smaller prices having ran in some nice races this campaign. Haven’t added to Alternative Fact but he’d be the clear 2nd choice for me.
Good luck all, especially Steeplechasing with a cracking shout for Music Seeker.
September 28, 2019 at 13:09 #1463263Queen of Time at 66s ew for me, due to some OK course form round about this time last year.
September 28, 2019 at 13:30 #1463266DUBAI HORIZON 33/1 8 places
Super Saeed has had 3 runners so far at this meeting producing 2 winners and a second. He showed us a returning 5yo who is the best racehorse in the world. In this he brings back another 5yo and although he carries top weight he is built to carry it has class has course form and is likely to run a lifetime best here and go close. We know Super Saeed can get them raring to go 1st time up and the booking of Fallon amd his 3lb claim means that Super Saeed meens business and can add the cambridgeshire to his vast cv.
September 28, 2019 at 13:45 #1463267I put up Dubai Horizon a while back at at 25/1. I’m glad to see he stood his
ground, even although he’s been left with topweight. He is out to 33/1, so I’ve taken another
bite at him, 8 places with Sky.Having run the rule over the field, I think that there is every chance that Mordin could take
a hand in this at 18/1. He finished runner up last year from a similar high draw, and
although he is 9 lbs higher here, he has the very capable Marco Ghiani taking 7lbs off. After
a fine win at Haydock on his return this year, his figures in his last 5 races 5th, 10th, 13th,
3rd and 5th don’t scream winner, but he’s competed in top races such as the Royal Hunt Cup where
he was running on well in 6th and the John Smith’s Diamond Jubilee Cup at York, where he got
hampered at the start and lost his chance there. He has a good shout, and 8 places has to worth a
punt.September 28, 2019 at 13:47 #1463268I was typing up my bit potato when I see you have stuck up Dubai Horizon too. I hope
it’s a case of great minds think alikeSeptember 28, 2019 at 14:06 #1463272Fingers crossed BigG it must go well here.
September 28, 2019 at 15:40 #1463285I’ll go with Lord North here as well, with an each way on Another Touch at big odds to 8 places.
September 28, 2019 at 15:41 #1463287Jazeel and More in
