Thanks Hairruffle ~ in effect we got very lucky with the vet as he happened to be close by (although the practice is well staffed and very professional) but he said that stitching the injury while very fresh and clean improves the prognosis considerably.
June 11, 2008 at 02:16 #167767Sorry to hear that, hope she makes a speedy recovery.
June 11, 2008 at 02:26 #167772Sorry to read this Rory – what’s the latest news?
June 12, 2008 at 00:26 #167912With apologies to zoz, to whom I’ve sent this exact message:
I got a call from the vet treating Nuala (Stuart) on her progress; there is always a worry with horses who suffer this kind of injury that it will be compromised by death of the damaged tissue, particularly the skin that has been broken. If the skin dies then granulation will occur before the wound can heal and not only is the risk of infection considerably greater, but the time take for healing is greatly increased. Thankfully Stuart tells me that there is no sign of the skin dying and the external injury is apparently healing well. I’ll visit her again next week to see how she’s doing.
June 12, 2008 at 00:46 #167917Just an update ~ the above message was from a week ago and I’m told that Nuala has been "very perky" of late. There won’t be much to report for a while I hope as the tendon will require four months of box rest, but at least the prognosis is fairly good.
June 12, 2008 at 01:24 #167921Good luck with her Rory.
June 12, 2008 at 03:18 #167940Cheers Corm ~ I’m essentially now trying to identify a potential sire for her for next season having turned down her potential suitors for this year. I’m a tad protective…….
