Good performance and jumps well enough to be a Gold Cup horse. Quality of today’s race wasn’t great though, with many significant non-runners even before today.

“But how good would Ahoy Senor be if he could jump?”

Gotta have a huge chance in next year’s gold cup, hes still a big novicey baby

With another summer on his back, more schooling and more racing youd be hopeful he will learn what to do when he meets one on a poor stride

Farouk travelled well for a long way but seemed to get tired very quickly on the home turn and approaching the last thought he’d struggle to hold second against a thorough stayer in AS.

tbh Amor Senor has had enough races now for this to be how he’s always going to be – unless possibly changing rider. Doubt he’d ever be anything other than a doubtful jumper.

You can’t win a GC without jumping …but you can get a place in a average one …maybe , I imagine scu might have to lose a few more pounds and get schooling

    Agree with this GT.

He’s had plenty of time to learn, it’s going to be his achilles heel it seems.

Al boum photo won 2 gold cups despite being a scratchy jumper so anything is possible when the engine is there

Al Boum Photo may not be a fluent jumper FF, but he’s much better than Amor Senor.

Ginge- not like you to get a horse’s name wrong. That’s twice you’ve called Ahoy Senor “Amor Senor” instead. 🤔

Ginge and Jack, care to revise your opinion of Ahoy Senor? I’ve said from the outset this is Britain’s most talented 3 miler. BMG has less improvement in him; his jumping can’t be improved upon whereas there’s far more scope to squeeze a few more pounds out of AS. I think you both know that now too, which is nice. ;-)

    I’d certainly revise, Couteau.
It was an improved round of jumping. To do that to Fury Road is undoubtedly good form, probably up with Bravemansgame and L’Homme Presse at their bests. Those two were well below form last week. Latter has the excuse of – as I said on Commodore’s chances for the Grand National – Venitia generally is in nowhere near the same form as at Cheltenham. Bravemansgame usually a magnificent leaper but took a strong hold and reigned back for cover; had to stretch very hard for one and maybe did some (hopefully minor) damage.

When it comes to next year and Cheltenham: tbh Although improved, Ahoy Senor’s jumping technique is imo still not that good. So depends which way that goes from now on. If continuing to improve on that front you’re right he has the physical scope to be a force next year. Did get a very soft lead at Aintree and that could be important in both how well he jumps and the level of ability he’s capable of. Possibly less likely to get an easy lead at Cheltenham than Aintree. Also Lucinda Russell seems to hit form at Aintree time rather than Cheltenham. Obviously has a chance but (amongst the Brits) I prefer L’Homme’ for Cheltenham. Bravemansgame may not stay 3m2f. imo Aintree Bowl might be the race for Ahoy Senor in 2023.

That said, if you’ve got a Gold Cup ante-post bet prior to Aintee you’ve got good value. :good:
