It’s got to be Clare Balding, who is head and shoulders above anyone else on any of the channels, not least for her sheer professionalism and versatility, made even more apparent by her widely-praised coverage of the Olympics and Paralympics.

Admitted over-exposure since then should not detract from her achievements this year.

Alastair Down might be a late contender, judged by his solo presenting performances in recent weeks for Channel 4.

For me – for the way he dealt with both his health problem and the Channel 4 ‘thing’ – it’s Thommo.

I’ll nominate a certain Jimmy Duggan for his valiant efforts in covering Cheltenham, Aintree, and Saratoga steeplechasing for TVG and for putting up with the clueless TVG hosts.

Also because Jack Fisher jokingly asked him to ride for him next season and he took him up on the offer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEKEqtgGvao

It’s not a proper list without Matt Chapman.
