Looks like being a half decent renewal this year, good mix of old favourites, and a few with a fair bit of potential. Possibly not the same quality that’s on offer at The Curragh, but I’m looking forward to it anyway.
Last years winner Ouzbeck lines up, alongside familiar names such as Cornish Sett, Gone To Lunch, and Grand Slam Hero.
Missed a right good payout on this last year, had Brooklyn Brownie ew at 33’s, only to see him go very close, finishing 2nd to Ouzbeck, who he meets again today. Seemed as if age was catching up with him last couple of runs, but ran very well for a long way at Cheltenham earlier in the year, finishing 6th to Blazing Bailey. Hoping he retains enough ability to put up a good show, and give me a run for my money at the very least, and also hoping that the trainer has had this race in mind for him for a while. Couldn’t get 33’s this time around, but I’ll have a few quid on at 16’s BOG ew.
Keenans Future, Dom D’Orgeval, and The Last Derby, head the market, and all 3 obviously have a decent chance, but the way things are going, Mizen Razen may start fave, at the moment he’s 10’s from 25’s. I’m assuming he’s the Pricewise selection.
Gonebeyondrecall is an interesting runner, travels over from Ireland, and should be spot on for a recent spin over hurdles. Ballyvesey also appeals, he could have a decent future in staying chases, and comes from a stable in good form. Sea Wall for the AP/Jonjo/JP team seems to thrive in the summer, and also warrants respect. I’ll go for the latter 2 to chase BB home.
Well, that’s half the field mentioned, obviously the winner will come from elsewhere.
Good Luck!
June 26, 2011 at 09:19 #362548My local track, although I’ve gone off it in recent years. However, wish I was going, this afternoon, as a lot of my old favourites are running. Would love to see Gone to Lunch run a mighty race.
June 26, 2011 at 10:33 #362562My eye is taken by Grand Slam Hero in this. Was in great form this time last year but was poor in autumn and winter. As a result his handicap rating has slipped to a workable level and on his best form he is now fairly handicapped. Ground won’t be a problem and he has won over 3m 3f so today’s trip shouldn’t bother him. Best of all he has a very good 7lb claimer on him in Adam Wedge. This guy is obviously inexperienced but has put up some impressive performances- has a 15% strike rate in chases (30% this season). GSH might be a light of former days and could well finish down the field but at 28/1 I am prepared to risk a modest each way bet
June 26, 2011 at 15:20 #362613I’ve something of a soft spot for The Last Derby – should stay the trip, jumps well, worth an e/w pop, I think.

So don't run, just like the others always do
