Ancient Wisdom – 8/1 EW
Proper group horse but Buick has chosen to ride Military Order and unbeaten Ombudsman ridden by Ryan Moore.
Selection has won on all ground conditions and gets further.

Plus comby Forecast on all 3 x Godolphin runners.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 28, 2025 at 17:50 #173140718/1 Persica
Last in the Lockinge but he’s not a miler
Has some nice enough form over this distance and capable of out running his oddsCharles Darwin to conquer the World
May 28, 2025 at 18:12 #1731408I thought that I would stick with Almaqam at 11-4, but I’m also keen on Enfjaar. He’s 12-1 just now, but I will try and get a good ew price on course
May 29, 2025 at 08:39 #1731429Can’t believe Ancient Wisdom has drifted to 18/1 there must be some negative vibes around him today.
I will back him again at that price and hope he runs. Always remember Notable Speech in The Guineas so never say never, the horse had no idea what his odds are.
Not sure if the rain he loves will come but it’s going to be interesting.

As short as 6-1 for the Prince Of Wales. Ryan Moore booked to get the job done. If they think he is that level then, at around 9-4, i thought was worth throwing a dart at.
May 29, 2025 at 11:56 #1731441Military Order looked really good on the AW latest, but the worry for me is (ok excuses in The Derby and this is not a Derby) but he has not beat a horse home on turf in his last three runs, that puts me off a little.
May 29, 2025 at 13:37 #1731449This race has totally changed since this morning.
There were two horses who run their best races from the front (good chance of a fast pace). However, they both have round actions and both are best on softer ground. So I applaud connections taking Ancient Wisdom and Bolster out.
However, that means there is no guaranteed pace.
Persica has led before to win a handicap, but you’ve got to go back to Derby Day last year for that. If allowed a soft lead – even though last in the Lockinge wasn’t persevered with – has some mile speed to make him difficult to pass. But will Levey have the nouse?
I backed Enfjaar fairly early. Am a bit concerned he’ll now be too far back. He’s also not wearing the usual hood. But the gelding op’ probably had more to do with his improved form. Unlike many here he’s proven on fast ground.
Military Order won impressively first time out as a three year old from the front. But that was on much softer. I agree with nwalton. The turf (especially on a sound surface) is a worry for Military Order. I just feel he’d be quite a short priced favourite but for that. So – with a possibility of a soft lead – is imo worth taking a chance at the price; particularly with one of the best tacticians on board.
Almaqam is perhaps the obvious one on his head second in the Prix Dollar. Would’ve been a lot closer to the winner Al Aasy on reappearance here but for his momentum being stopped by the winner coming over. Also has a Sandown victory to his name (so goes well here) in the Heron over a mile on this day last year. Ran pretty well in last year’s St James’s Palace on a similar surface to today. But he’s another who could find himself too far back.
I want to be against Cicero’s Gift. Ran a great race in the Bet365 against Dancing Gemini and Tamfana. I just think at this trip he’ll be anchored out the back in what may well be a slowish run race.
Ombudsman is a big danger. Unbeaten and progressive… but he’ll need to be. Yet to actually beat anything of real note. His position in the market was all about reputation and potential rather than form, so can understand the drift. That said, will need to win here even to justify his current Eclipse price and Ryan Moore is an eye-catching booking.
Phantom Light hasn’t been in good form for a while now and this appears too difficult a race even if at his best.
The Qatar runner Aafoor looks outclassed.
I’ve backed Enfjaar and Military Order with savers on Almaqam and Persica.
Value Is EverythingMay 29, 2025 at 14:44 #1731453sound write up GT, I am getting old missed the bits of 11/4 last night (dont know how long that was about for)Ed Walkers horse so will sit and watch. I see Persica is now out also
May 29, 2025 at 14:56 #1731455OMG Now Persica is a non-runner!
Where’s the pace?

Military Order?
Or will Godolphin’s duo now both come to the fore?
Or will Phantom Light go back to his old (very old) prominent tactics?I’ve now replaced the saver on Persica with one on Phantom Light instead and reduced the amount of liability on Ombudsman.
Value Is EverythingMay 29, 2025 at 15:31 #1731460Tempted by Walker’s horse if any 7/4 becomes available only for a small stake
May 29, 2025 at 16:01 #1731461Almaqam is 2.94 on betfair so I would think some bookmakers will go 7/4.
Value Is EverythingMay 29, 2025 at 16:28 #1731464thanks GT
May 29, 2025 at 17:09 #1731466Military Order’s last 6 races has seen him run 3 each on the AW and turf with wildly differing outcomes, those turf races have seen him finish last each time beaten a total of 49¾L whilst on the AW he has won twice and was 2nd the other time.
You have to go back over 2 years to see his last actual win on turf (also his best ever run on turf) which was the race before he won the Lingfield Derby, which incidentally was run on the AW track that year.
For a horse that has a 50% career strike rate (wins to runs), I simply don’t trust him to transfer his AW form onto turf……most likely he will now go and make a complete mockery of that statement tonight.
May 29, 2025 at 17:43 #1731469took the 7/4 Almaqam
