Has Ryan Price got a runner in it?
Will it actually be booed up the run in if it wins?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"February 12, 2022 at 10:07 #1582782Useless fact time – Hughes has ridden more 2nd placed (120) and 3rd placed (119) horses than any of his rivals have ridden actual winners
February 12, 2022 at 14:44 #1582831Does Hughes ride less favourites than his rivals?
If so that would explain the difference, LD.Value Is EverythingFebruary 12, 2022 at 16:27 #1582859GT – Very possible that he rides more favs being up north but not 100% sure that it would be in sufficient enough numbers to fully account for such a big discrepancy (it ranges from 35-62 more 2nd & 3rd places compared to the other top 10 jockey’s actual total winners).
The respective % of winning favs ridden to date for the top 10 jockeys shows he has 4 that are higher than him and 5 that are lower:
Hughes 43%
Skelton 38%
STD 29%
S Bowen 42%
Brennan 45%
Cobden 46%
Boinville 45%
J Bowen 36%
Moore 48%
Coleman 35%Would be really interesting to know exactly what the number of favs each jockey has ridden to date to get a definitive answer but being able to work that out is way above my technical knowledge/pay grade.
February 12, 2022 at 16:53 #1582867LD how many graded races has he rode in this season ….not many id guess , he,s prob rode in more claimers/sellers
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 12, 2022 at 17:24 #1582881Using the Stats on Racing Post this makes for interesting reading, hopefully these links are correct:

This season breakdown https://www.racingpost.com/profile/jockey/81409/brian-hughes/statsEdit: you will need to change the filter to 2020-21 under time period as it won’t display a seperate link for both
February 13, 2022 at 09:52 #1582964The idea that Hughes (or any other jockey) can be making hay in sellers or claimers is based on the racing program of the last century.
Current program book runs until the end of April. In the next two and half months, there are five selling hurdles and two claiming hurdles. Only three of those are staged north of Birmingham.
There are no such races over fences at all.
February 13, 2022 at 13:38 #1583003Ok AP but he point I’m making is he isn’t riding in the top races , it would be akin to the so called top racing driver driving in banger races , I’ve nothing against Hughes but he,s not in the same league as McCoy , Walsh , Johnson etc , I’ll keep saying it in my eyes the best jockey about is Sean Bowen but the lad doesn’t seem able to stay in a yard
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 13, 2022 at 16:31 #1583042Meanwhile Brian Hughes keeps banging in the winners, three more yesterday at Uttoxeter and none of them favourites.
April 9, 2022 at 14:42 #1592419Champion Jockey Elect. Based in the North of England and on the North’s big racing day of the year he is riding at…Bangor on Dee.
April 9, 2022 at 18:23 #1592565He,s a champion jockey without a horse , what’s the best horse he,s ridden this year ?, I actually feel sorry for him , he,ll prob go to Sandown for the trophy and won’t have a ride
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
April 9, 2022 at 19:44 #1592588I find it incredible no one offered him a ride in the National.
I could understand him going to Bangor if the championship was still on the line and he had a few fancied rides – but the title is sewn up.
Couldn’t his agent have booked him onto a few at Aintree?
April 9, 2022 at 21:01 #1592605I would guess the agent has to work around where Hughes’ main employer wants him to go.
Donald McCain had no runners at Aintree so off he goes to Bangor – pretty straightforward to be honest.
BH seems happy with the arrangement so good for him.
April 9, 2022 at 21:57 #1592627193 and counting…
April 10, 2022 at 08:30 #1592694If the current crop of riders were transferred back 40 years to replace the riders of that time, I’m sure Hughes would have been snapped up by Jimmy Fitzgerald who liked most of his animals ridden quietly. You could envisage Hughes giving Galway Blaze that prep for the Hennessey, then riding him when it was all go. Could also see him coming there swinging away on Forgive N’ Forget in the Coral Final. And of course, there’d be lots eyecatchers running on from mid div to finish on the heels of the leaders.
April 20, 2022 at 17:09 #1594798200 up for Brian Hughes. Well done to him. A fine achievement on its own terms.
However, I do not want to be mean spirited but I cannot agree with RTV. How can he be described as an all time great when he has only ridden one Grade 1 winner and is often absent from the big stage?

April 21, 2022 at 10:56 #1594973If you ride 200 winners you’re doing something right, and a good strike rate. It’s about riding the most winners in a set period. There is no small print requiring Gd1 wins, and nor should there be.
Why bother going to a big meeting for the odd ride, and probably on an outsider, when he can have a full book of rides elsewhere?
I really don’t get this obsession with him riding Gd1 winners…..he doesn’t get those horses, and neither has his main trainer. - AuthorPosts
