I am speaking through the pocket! Having sat and picked one horse from another 24 to go an win at a nice price of 25’s Modem was shut out of it by a deliberate move by Katie T when it was getting back on terms after a better jump at the last
No placing enquiry but Hughes gotta two day for careless riding
Modem shortened right up and stopped. What did you guys think
January 18, 2015 at 18:42 #502038I don’t think Modem would have won anyway.
The best horse won. In France you would have got the race, but that’s the rulesJanuary 18, 2015 at 19:13 #502039I think your jockey was a little daft to dive towards the closing gap on the inside when he had the whole racetrack open on the other side.
Like no idea, I think the best horse won anyway.
January 18, 2015 at 22:31 #502059The right horse won imo, but I’m surprised Brian Hughes didn’t get a longer ban.
January 19, 2015 at 00:25 #502071Pocket talking here as well Jibsa, cost me a fair amount, as had him 33’s and upwards

I’m amazed Modem got back to the winner, and only a slow jump by Katie T allowed the race being turned into a rout. However, he did let Modem back into it, and there’s little doubt Modem would have won had he not been stopped……but hey, maybe Robbie Power shouldn’t have went for the gap, and the best horse won I suppose. Trying to be upbeat about it
January 19, 2015 at 07:57 #502083It’s quite possible Modem could have won but that’s not sufficient to change a result, the benefit of doubt has to go to the first past the post in situations like this.
Something similar happened to Hughes on Attaglance at Cheltenham last year.
I’d be fed up if I’d backed Modem but sometimes you’re just going to be unlucky, whether you’re a punter, owner, trainer or jockey, it can’t be avoided.
Just hope you both backed Modem each way for a bit of consolation.
January 19, 2015 at 09:28 #502091Cheers boys I got over it now.
The winner hosed up approaching the last and I’d have had no complaint if he’d gone on but Modem for a five year old was game over the last up the inside where he’d been all race.Suppose a switch outside might have cost him a length or two before he got it running again
January 21, 2015 at 01:10 #502318Modem was 20s, wasn’t he? I do hope an each way bet helped soften the blow.

So don't run, just like the others always do
February 12, 2015 at 18:44 #750676Not my favourite jockey I have to say, but his ride on Hawk High at Kelso today was poor.
Why he chose to come up the inside and almost get pushed through the wing of the second last flight only he knows. Whether it cost him the race is open to debate but I think it would have been on the nod.
At the time he was travelling supremly well but then lost ground had to switch round the third by which time the winner had first run and got the lead on him which he held to the line.
Poor judgement, not the first time and I doubt it will not be last from him.February 12, 2015 at 19:06 #750681I have no evidence to support this nor am I talking through my pocket but in the light of the Richie McGrath case I have seen Brian Hughes given many a horse a questionable ride and today on Hawk High he gave the horse a a very poor ride.
I admit I’m a conspiracy theorist and think I see corruption everywhere, and though I’m probably wrong 9 times out of 10 I can’t get it out of my mind that I’m not wrong on this occasion.
February 12, 2015 at 20:39 #750686Which case was that with McGrath I don’t recall but would be interested to look at it.

As I said I’m probably wide of the mark here and am in no way accusing Brian Hughes of being a cheat
February 13, 2015 at 12:20 #750730Agreed the ride on Hawk High was tactically inept. Brian Harding made two crucial moves – first of all putting Hughes in a pocket when he rushed up his outside down the back straight, and then kicking on at the second last when Hughes was so tight on the inner of the leader he was squeezed up approaching the flight. After that he could never make up the deficit.
I have to say I often find Hughes lacking in tactical nous. He looks stylish and has "good hands" but that doesn’t win you races on its own. I remember recently watching McCoy galvanise Three Kingdoms at Donnie following a seemingly race losing mistake three out and thinking there is no way Hughes would have won on him that day.
He looks good when a horse is on the bridle but seems to take an age to gather momentum when his mount comes off the bridle and is often out witted by jockeys who are more alert to the changing pace of a race.
February 13, 2015 at 18:10 #750772Well he is on Runswick Royal again tomorrow at Haydock after giving that a horse another inept ride last time when if you watch the race again he should have won by at least 2 lenghts but conspired to wait and wait until it was to late.
I now avoid him - AuthorPosts
