Red Rocks for me. Eagle Mountain I’m not convinced really stays a mile and a half despite his second to Authorized in the Derby.

Conduit could run well. The Americans – Well we always beat them in the turf ……………….. don’t we? Red Rocks is a honorary Brit.

I see RPR gave Goldikova 112 for her French Guineas run which sort of aids your point Reet but that rating is ludicrously low and plain wrong IMO. At the time I rated Zarkava 123, Goldikova 119, Halfway To Heaven 116 and that I think has been proved to be far more accurate than the 120, 112, 109 of RPR.

    Ian

Her trainer said, after her Deauville win, that she had “come on a lot, both mentally and physically since the Diane”, her RPR and s/f both support that view, and what I saw tonight was some way above even your own ‘119’ performance.

Reet, trainers say all sorts mate. I judge horses by what I see on the track not connections comments. My ratings of that race work out very accurately not only with Goldikova but also with Zarkava and Halfway To Heaven.

Tonights performance to be honest I wouldn’t rate as to be honest I don’t know enough about the American horses to give an average assessment.

Conduit – another one for us  We’re having a ball tonight.

Red Rocks – awful, I now disown him as a honorary Brit he can be a yank instead.

Off a fast pace Conduit is capable of finding some serious power at the end of a race.

Great run by Kevin Shea on Eagle Mountain but the superstar Conduit comes through again!

Really pleased for Ryan Moore- picked the wrong one in the Leger and finally got his top-class victory on Conduit that he deserved.

    Henry up next :D

Thank you Red Rock Canyon for setting the race up beautifully for Conduit!

Was a pacemaker really going to help SOF more than Conduit?

Looks like McCririck has gotten confused between Curlin and Conduit.

I take it that Matt Chapman wasnt a fan of J Murtagh’s ride on Soldier of Fortune then.

Just spent the last 4-5 minutes slating Murtagh for the ride.

Can anyone see the sense in using Red Rock Canyon as pacemaker when there’s a St Leger winner with a decent turn of foot in the field?
In hindsight (wonderful thing) just a steady pace with have benefitted SOF although I still doubt it would have made a significant difference.

Haha in all honesty it was a pretty strange ride. I dont understand why he went after Red Rock Canyon with half the race to go but who am I to slate him…

Unfortunately, Ian, you don’t know everything (and neither do I, of course, but I’m not quoting opinion as fact).

Darjina, even on her mosts recent efforts, is comfortably rated in excess of 120 and Goldikova beat her fairly convincingly. Throw in other seasonal victims – the 118-rated Cesare, the rapidly improving Paco Boy and Halfway to Heaven – and I think your appraisal of the now Breeders’ Cup winner is some way off.

Take tonight’s performance on it’s own if you need any sort of clarification. Kip Deville beat Excellent Art in this race last year, a horse who went into the event on an RPR of 124 having finished a close second to Ramonti in the QEII. He wasn’t great in his preparation for tonight’s race, but he was coming back from two months off after destroying Tam Lin at Belmont Park.

Common sense says that beating Kip Deville in the manner Goldikova has makes her extraordinarily good – easily pushing the late 120s for me. And, in turn, Zarkava is being proved to have been something dearly special.

It does seem a little strange.

Maybe they wanted to set the race up for Red Rocks Canyon to win and Murtagh forgot.

It might be too much to ask, Onthesteal, but is there any chance of you putting horses up before they’ve won

We can savour a horse good enough to be rated in the major Summer prizes like the King George etc etc

So long as he trains on, which I expect him to.

I think its easy to get carried away with performances and to over-rate. By your reckoning there must be a fair few mid 120’s horses out there but in truth there aren’t. Excellent Art was never a 124 horse IMO, Similarly Cesare isn’t a 118 horse and Darjina isn’t (IMO) a 120 plus horse but then the Racing Post do inflate ratings depending on the status of a race. Paco Boy I have at 121 but that is over 7f rather than a mile.

As i say I won’t even attempt to rate tonights performance because rating with a third of available evidence isn’t a clever thing to do.

In the end its all a matter of opinion.

I’m sure you put the mockers on Frankie, Bosranic :P

He more than made up for it on Donativum.

    Very unlucky on Diabolical, too.
