I’ve backed James Garfield here at 8’s
The race is over a mile but it’s a speed track and the tight bends favour those that are fast over a shorter trip.
Also there is a lot in the betting that will not turn up whereas James Garfield connections have confirmed and have been training with this in mind.
U S Navy Flag is 3’s with William Hill but will the bends play to his strengths.?Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
October 15, 2017 at 22:51 #1321861Probably my favourite horse of the season, have followed him in every race….
I have 16/1 and 20/1 for this as i bet him before his vintage stakes run, ill be delighted if he wins not only for myself but the horse as i really like him,but i really wish they would just keep him over 6f, this will stretch him, i wouldnt take the 8s, i dont buy into this “sharp track” meaning he will get the distance, a miles a mile, hes going to be running against some of the best 2yo milers here and i think he will get found out (hope im wrong)
Mendelssohn at 12/1 is where my antepost money will go and ill go in again if he turns up
October 15, 2017 at 23:05 #1321864They naturally go a tad slower around a bend and they’ll be plenty of them, a lot of previous winners would be by horses who were seen as better below the mile and I think the bends do play a part in that although it’s only my own thoughts on that.
His run at York was encouraging enough over 7f albeit he was outstayed but by a potentially very good horse. The going that day had a bit of cut in it too. I think he’ll be okay here personally with the trip.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
October 22, 2017 at 11:04 #1322950Hoping Threeandfourpence goes for this because it certainly looks like he has been aimed at something. Mrs. Stockwell won this with his Brother Hit it A Bomb two years ago.
One of the commentators at the Dewhurst mentioned he looked as if he was not ready for the race and would be better for the run. Still ran a good race just being pipped for third spot.
Step up to a Mile and fast conditions should be absolutely perfect. Has an entry at Doncaster in the Racing Post which looks like being soft, likewise with France. Should know more this week if he is pulled out at Donny.
Started on him @ 16’s for this, saying that the same would apply to Mendelssohn also but maybe not the step up in trip as much
October 22, 2017 at 19:32 #1323028Three and four pence possibly heading to France next Sunday according to aiden. Mendelsohn would be my idea of the winner. What’s happening with fleet review. Never been mentioned since his cracking run behind us navy flag.
October 22, 2017 at 23:46 #1323060I’m a rarity on this forum< i fancy one of the non-O’brien horses
October 23, 2017 at 00:01 #1323063James garfield isnt an obrien horse judge most of my post was aimed at him winning, nathan tipped him up to begin with, i seconded that ive backed him at 16 and 20/1
So no your not a rarity, yohr part of the majority in this thread backing non obrien runners
a side note
You dont seem to have latched on to the fact that ante-post it pays to follow the big guns on the flat, the best bloodlines cost the most on the flat, hence why 80/90% maybe more of antepost flat bets (especially classics) will fall onto an obrien horse thats nOt because people obsess over obrien, its because its fact that his overall ammunition far exceeds anyone elses. Thats not to take anything away from obrien its just facts. For someone who follows mullins antepost over jumps, you should apply the same reasoning to obrien.

October 23, 2017 at 15:45 #1323155I too am with James Garfield at 8/1. He just seems the perfect type for a European horse in this and hopefully the draw will be kind.
I don’t think Ballydoyle will send U S Navy Flag and I hear Threeandfourpence is being aimed at France so I’d imagine Fleet Review and Mendelssohn could end up for them here.
October 23, 2017 at 19:45 #1323185Aidan said yesterday that US Navy Flag will be going for the Juvenile Turf, and Mendelssohn and Seahenge are being considered also. He must have been reading the discussions on this forum, he said that people are saying USNF is a small colt but that he is in fact 15 hands 3 inches high.
October 25, 2017 at 19:02 #1323454I hear O’Brien wants to keep some of his 2 year olds apart at Del Mar and therefore has given U S Navy Flag and Mendelssohn entries in the Juvenile on the dirt. I’d imagine the former will go here with the latter given a chance on the lesser surface.
October 25, 2017 at 21:14 #1323478Us Navy Flag is a tough horse however he has had two tough races in a short space of time, so I feel he can be confidently taken on here. I think the very solid MASAR offers cracking value-especially as the Appleby horses seem to be flying at the moment.

I’ve just taken the 6/1 NRNB with paddy Power on him for this
Think he will go off shorter at the very least.
October 31, 2017 at 01:01 #1324245According to the draw US Navy Flag lines up elsewhere.

October 31, 2017 at 07:39 #1324261He does indeed go for the dirt and mendelssohn comes here, has been successfull so far antepost for myself with mendelssohn and JG

What happened to the notion that Masar was a “Slow Tub Of Crud” Judge?

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
October 31, 2017 at 18:12 #1324319I feel sorry for U S Navy Flag bettors but I can’t lie I was happy to see the colt diverted to the Juvenile as it makes James Garfield’s chances a whole lot better.
