Will they go fast enough for Mastercraftsman? if so i think he is a solid choice at 5/2.

It’s more a question of will Mastercraftsman go fast enough for them, imo.
Judged on his narrow defeat of Delegator on the much stiffer Ascot track, he’s up against it around here, and will need to go hell for leather from the start if he’s to have any chance of winning.

Midshipman looks the most solid to me

That’s suicide going hell for leather from the start, no the best tactic is to let the others commit suicide first, i think Mastercraftsman has enough speed and stamina to sit off the pace.

Neko Bay made most appeal to me when I was looking at the card. Havent really thought a great deal of this years milers in the UK and couldnt back a danehill dancer on dirt (or proride), so I have to take on Mastercraftsman here.

    Mastercraftsman will not be leading.

Midshipman looks to be the only confirmed pace here and has track form from the meeting last year. Midshipman managed to go wire-to-wire last year on a track which didnt suit front runners at all. His reappearance this year, albeit over a shorter distance, was very impressive. That said…so did Quality Road’s reappearance on the Belmont dirt and he didnt seem to come on.

Mastercraftsman may very well get a dream run tracking from stall 1 but he’s too short for me here.

Instead, I like Chocolate Candy who has good course form. Had a nice pipe opener over the distance at Hollywood Park before going very strong on the 1m1f Goodwood Stakes until the final furlong. It’s interesting to note that Chocolate Candy and Gitano Hernando were going for identical gaps in the home straight and were both going exceptionally well.

The drop back to a mile will suit Chocolate Candy and I expect a big run at 12/1

    You’re not alone, HTH.

I think Chocolate Candy is a storming ew bet. He has only disappointed on the dirt surface in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.

He’s demonstrated the ability to handle just about every other surface and ran two of his best races at this track, in the Santa Anita Derby behind the talented and now sadly retired Pioneerof the Nile, and most recently in the Goodwood Stakes behind Gitano Hernando.

    I strongly fancy Midshipman (NAP).

Winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last year, he is ideally positioned in stall three to utilise his pace tactics and is proven on the surface, unlike some of his rivals.

Both Pyro and Bullsbay are talented dirt horses, while Mastercraftsman should act on the surface, but has to prove it over this distance.

Ridden with extreme confidence at Dudalk over an extended ten furlongs, but he will have to up his game to catch Midshipman.

However, he has proven himself over a variety of trips and conditions and his Royal Ascot win came on fast ground against a real speedy type in Delegator.

But Midshipman will prove hard to catch and he stays this trip well. Chocolate Candy and Mastercraftsman can battle it out for second and third.

    Nice one, Bul.

Thought my NAP was going to hold on once he beat off Mastercraftsman.

A few upsets tonight. Can’t see Santa Anita staging the Breeders’ Cup for the next few…hundred years!

Cheers Bos. Thought I had a 40-1 winner in the previous race until Goldikova passed him up at the death. Noble Promise also got passed at the death in his race too and thought it was just going to be one of those days for it, so that one cheered me up. Hoping Red Rocks, Twice Over or Girolamo can something now.

This race was the most shocking of all of them. Mastercraftsman had a small hole would not go through, it closed and that was that. The top two were never a consideration for me and I’m still scratching my head.

This was a truly hideous race! I was VERY anti-MCM but just couldn’t find a horse to bet against him.

I have to say that overall the BC felt a bit average. I watched every race and apart from Goldikova/Zenyatta it all felt a bit mediocre. Bring back the one night meeting!

There are a few races they need to axe. Certainly. Do we need a turf juvenile fillies? Or a turf juvenile? No. The female sprinters have had no trouble beating males in the regular sprint. The only ones I would keep would be the marathon, dirt mile and turf sprint. Even the dirt mile is iffy but we do have horses that could go in that.

I enjoyed all the races, and wouldn’t change any of them. Two days seems fine to me as well. Next year it returns to Belmont, so the yanks will be more optimistic. Is it safe to assume there will be more dirt races ?

It’ll be at Churchill Downs next year. There will be dirt races. This year there weren’t any dirt races. LOLOL So it will go back to being the DIRT Mile. LOLOL Sure, you will see a lot more horses show up that did not this year. Fabulous Strike was one that stayed home because of the fact it was on synthetic as did Rachel Alexandra. There was a scratch of Kodiak Kowboy because his work over it was not good enough to send him. Bullsbay IMO should not have run on it. I didn’t think he would like it and I was right.
