“Well no, it’s based on emissions so why should they?”

“I’ll be down in The Smoke sometime soon and plan to visit the Wetland Centre in Barnes. Would you recommend it?”

The Wetland Centre was just down the road from me when I lived in London. I can certainly recommend it. A very pleasant place to spend a few hours.

They will not be around at this time of year but I once saw a bittern there, which was rather exciting and a very good one to tick off the list.

“Nicola Sturgeon will always win the best turned out award: impeccably groomed and dressed.”

Her hair always looks immaculate, even during the days of lockdown when hairdressers were all shut and they were not allowed to do home visits either.

Vote of no confidence next week anyone? Tory MPs are finally waking up to the fact that many of them will be out of a job if Johnson stays on. Brady surely won’t go public with it on Lizzie’s big weekend though.

Hopefully he narrowly survives it if it does come then we can really get the popcorn out.

    Or maybe it’s a syrup ?

And she’s as bald as a coot

There’s nothing quite like the sight of a mortally-wounded, lame duck, limping on, still fully two and a half years away from the winning (or losing!) post to get me reaching for a bucket of popcorn then sitting back to watch the fun.

    Richard. Sense it won’t happen
But even if it did he would ignore it unless conclusive whereas previous pms would do the right thing

Also corbyn ignored the vote against him so there’s a sort of precedent

Perhaps if he goes and being jubilee and all that we could make the queen absolute monarch for the rest of her days

And she goes all henry the eighth and beheads the toad and sturgeon as traitors. Publicly at the tower

I’d turn up for that one. With the iPhone for pics

    A thought

Traditionally at beheadings the hold up the head and present to the crowd. But of course if, as expected, it’s a syrup, then it would all get a bit messy wouldn’t it ?

I saw a bittern at Potteric Carr Reserve near Doncaster, or rather had it pointed out to me, as it was indistinct amongst tall reeds. Quite a sight but I believe the population’s increasing, which is nice

Looking forward to an amble around the Wetland Centre. No bitterns maybe but plenty of bald coots I’m sure

Drone.. im not a birdwatcher but keep eye out for things on cycle routes. Know what’s what. Two recent cycles in the fens produced a marsh harrier swooping out of a marsh and a clutch of Bearded Tits (no sniggering) perched right next to where I rested. They are gorgeous. Second trip was good too A barn owl out of a tree just a few feet away. What a sight they are

But best was something I saw on pevensey levels. Glaring at me from a few feet on a tree before slowly flying off. Only seen at night too and not an owl. They are resident on pevensey I found and apparently birdwatchers kill to see them. Very rare during day but found out it does happen occasionally and especially at time of year I was there. Couldn’t be anything else either.

    Guess?

There’s a barn owl that flies over Bamburgh Castle in the early evening. It’s the most amazing sight. They look so huge from a distance. The dunes are quite spooky when it’s getting dark, especially as they’ve found Viking skeletons in them so it’s quite surreal.

Correct Purwell. Quite something. They are also not particularly scared of humans apparently and he sat their staring at me as if to say “are you going to **** off or shall I”

Moe. I actually many years ago got a glimpse of one in Twickenham which was bizarre but this was really close and honestly one of the most spectacular birds I’ve seen. With you on that

They are very unusual in quite often sitting lengthwise instead of across branches.

I saw my first cuckoo close-up a couple of weeks ago at my local common.

It swooped down just below head-height of me singing away; I hadn’t realised the size of their wingspan. Fantastic sight amd something I will never forget. My highlight of 2022!
