One day I hope people will look back and understand that being barred from visiting close relatives on their deathbeds was frankly a pretty sick policy by any standards.

The whiff of a rule based on “we will because we can”

Hi Clive, reading through the comments I agree with a great deal of
what you say. Labour don’t exactly inspire you with having the answer,
when they don’t make clear what the answer is.

Hopefully I can bring up a topic, without us getting into a stooshie.
Devolution isn’t exactly what a lot of people take it to be. It gives
us some powers, over our tax laws, health and care, local Government
and stuff like transport and others. Scotland in effect have 2 Governments.
The UK Government and the Scottish Government. We are restricted in many
areas, the Scottish Government has very limited borrowing powers.

When we all find ourselves having to spend for extreme circumstances such as
Covid and Furlough, the UK has the power to borrow from International Debt
Markets. Owing to Covid etc they borrowed £327 billion in 2021. Scotland
does not have the devolved power to borrow from such markets, so Scotland
Wales and N Ireland all share in the borrowing from the UK’s borrowing for
    extreme and unforeseen circumstances.

I don’t think “Mind you we definitely want someone who will tell sturgeon to ****
off when she does her oliver “please sir can I have more” when she screws up her
budget again and again”, is fair.

The only way Scotland would have that ability is if it were Independent. That’s
an arguement for another time though.

Actually its about not the actual borrowing but control of budgets…. but that’s a very nice post

I agree that Labour are lacking focus. I have regard for Kier but I was interested in Gavin Barwells comments in his book (which I keep referring to) that he was totally lacking in vision in the brexit negotiations and acted in that lawyerly micro detail manner. Almost as if he was incapable of the bigger picture. Tony Blair he’s not. Also he cant escape the fact that he campaigned to elect Corbyn whereas the impressive Rachel Reeves and the likes of the excellent Yvonne Cooper would not do so. Principles..

As it happens Gavin Barwells observations were fair and fascintaing across all parties and even as a tory he had huge regard for Len Mcclusky and his skills and manner as well as John. McDonnell. And he abolsutely hated Johnson and virtually admitted he came close to decking him (Barwell is a Croydon boy)

Labour is also continually infighting. Its just extraordinary that a party can literally make clowns out of themselves over an issue such as Trans rights. The mainstream lets it be bullied by attention seeking babies such as the awful Owen Jones who have no desire for a labour gov at all

Are the folks in Glockammora wondering what it is like over here?

I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highways

“With his antics on TV shows like “Have I Got News For You” he came across as a jolly buffoon, as Mayor of London he made himself a name for being in touch with the people. I don’t want to sound sexist but several ladies, who are normally sensible, have told me that they rather liked him.”

As I think I might have mentioned earlier in this thread, I very much doubt that Johnson would have become Prime Minister without that television exposure. It partly explains why the media hate him so much – because they were taken in by him and helped him into power.

As for the point about his appeal to the opposite sex – I do not think it is unreasonable or sexist to say that some women do prefer raffish types like Johnson and would consider the likes of Starmer or Corbyn to be rather dull. Johnson has clearly never been short of attention from women throughout his life, given his unknown number of children.

Johnson might have been attractive to women in the past but he certainly isn’t now! I did find him amusing before he started trashing everything about this country that I hold dear.

    That eternal aphrodisiac – power.

I wonder if he will be as attractive to women once he’s no longer PM.

I reckon from 1st January 2023 latest, to the end of his natural, he’ll have the chance to find out.

Boris is going down, it’s just a matter of when , it was ludicrous listening to Mogg this morning saying he won convincingly after saying May was in trouble when she won with a bigger majority in her vote , just proves they really think we aren’t watching or listening , I expect to see many in the cabinet take a step back from him , if they don’t they dont have the brains or nouce to be PM …..

Who was that French pm who looked like a gas board clerk and ended up with a rather gorgeous French actress?

And john Prescott humping that secretary over the desk at admiralty arch. You wouldn’t want to see that on xhamster

I think you mean Francois Hollande, former President of France. He was married to politician Segolene Royal, then left her for journalist Valerie Trierweiler. He used to drive through Paris on a moped at night to visit her.

I know someone who worked in Prescott’s office at the time that was going on.

It makes me feel unclean by association.

John Major and Edwina Currie, that’s an image I really don’t want in
