This is one for somebody you do like…

"The Gambling Man" by Kevin Perkins

Published in Australia in the early 90’s it’s semi auto biographical account of Bill Waterhouse’s life – almost certainly the biggest bookmaker the world’s ever seen. I got it as a present one Xmas & read all 600 pages by Boxing Day!

Nearly almost all his punting/bookmaking was at the races in OZ though he did spend a summer over here.

I think it may be out of print now (something legal as it dishes the dirt on the Australian establishment??) but a great pressie if you can find a copy & persuade someone to buy it for you
He’s had it in for me ever since he found out that I’m black.

Disappointing that blatant racism still exists in this day and age but there you go
You what?!

This has to be a wind up :cheesy:

Nothing to do with racing but Nigel Slater’s (he of TV Chef fame) autobiography type thing "Toast – the story of a boy’s hunger". My mother parted with 20p for it at a car boot sale – she was ripped off. She thought it was recipe-related and had a something of a shock when the chubby chef started going into details about his sex life.

Anybody who read Stav’s post purporting to contain a warning from me will realise, as pointed out by Seabird, that it was penned, so to speak, by Stav himself and has now been removed.
EC – I don’t think anyone has belittled your work on here or have I missed something?

If you’re talking about the belittling of Stav’s work, as I suspect you are, then Stav is surely man enough to defend himself adequately without, of course, reverting to playground insults and posting supposed edits in my name.

    Doh!
OK – enough is enough.

Much as it goes against the grain for me to do so I’ve been left with no alternative but to ban both EC and Stav, something I really didn’t want to do as both have had much of interest to contribute and I do realise that, on occasion, they have been baited a little.

However, Stav was warned in the strongest terms, having posted an extremely childish and abusive comment aimed at another forumite in addition to making edits purportedly by me, and chose to ignore the warning.

EC has been the subject of various warnings and it seems that never a week has gone by but I’m spending time I can little afford arsing about, sorting out little spats he’s invariably involved in. Tonight was the final straw in a big box of straws.

I’m really, really annoyed that I’ve been forced into this action and hope people understand the reasons for such drastic measures.

Right – can I get to bed now!
Feck me Corm,

I know EC can take stuff to heart and get a bit shirty, but he’s one of the best posters on here – a sad day a TRF rock imhaho

Stav’s a good poster too, but just seems to want to argue toss with people of late, but he has the right to defend himself against attack

BTW will the other baiters be banned?

Really sorry that it has come to this with EC, who is just about the most thought-provoking poster on here, IMO.

    Pru, Grass, EW, Trackside –

I agree that it’s sad to see EC, in particular, go but he left me absolutely no option.
